Alaei Closing the Gap

Level 8 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante

Daniel Alaei limped the button and Michael Stonehill checked his option from the big blind, which brought about a flop of {10-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}. Stonehill check-called a bet of 6,000 and then the dealer burned and turned the {3-Hearts}. Stonehill check-called another bet, this time 16,000, and the {9-Diamonds} completed the board on the river.

Stonehill checked for a third time and finally folded when Alaei bet 32,000.

Banwari Bests Shootout King Bolotin

Level 7 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante
Narendra Banwari
Narendra Banwari

Alex Bolotin raised to 8,000 on the button, Narendra Banwari three-bet to 19,000 from the big blind and Bolotin four-bet all in for about 110,000. Banwari called.

Bolotin: {A-Clubs}{J-Spades}
Banwari: {Q-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts}

The flop fell {10-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{3-Hearts} to keep Banwari ahead, but Bolotin caught the {A-Hearts} on the turn to take the lead.

"Goddamnit," muttered Banwari.

River: {Q-Spades}

"Yes!" said an excited Banwari as he rivered a queen to make a set of queens to reserve his seat at the final table.

Bolotin's valiant attempt at winning back-to-back shootouts came up just a little bit short.

Galfond Defeats Newman

Level 7 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante
Phil Galfond
Phil Galfond

Phil Galfond raised on the button to about 44,000 effective and Stewart Newman called all in from the big blind.

Galfond: {A-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}
Newman: {Q-Hearts}{9-Hearts}

The {J-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds} flop didn't change much, though the {A-Hearts} turn gave Newman a flush draw while pairing Galfond. The {7-Spades} river was of no consequence to Newman, clinching the match and a seat at the final table for Galfond.
