Marcel Vonk Leads Last 11 Into Final Day of Event #37

A total of 113 players returned for the second day of play in Event #37: $1,500 Pot-Limit Omaha at the 2014 World Series of Poker after the money bubble had burst late on Day 1. All players were guaranteed at least $2,480 for their efforts, and Brandon Paster was leading the field with a slight advantage over Fabrice Soulier coming in.

Soulier skyrocketed to the top of the leaderboard through the early levels and peaked at 380,000 in chips after knocking out Adam Bilzerian before going from hero to zero in about 90 minutes. Galen Hall doubled through him in a massive pot and the Frenchman never recovered, eventually bowing out in 42nd place.

Erick Lindgren experienced a very similar roller coaster and jumped into the lead before getting involved into the biggest pot of the day due to a massive three-way clash. Likewise, Lindgren could not get much going after that and hit the rail in 13th place in the penultimate level.

Once the full 10 levels were done and dusted, only 11 players remained.

The late stage of Day 2 was dominated by the duel between Kevin Saul and aforementioned Hall, however it would ultimately be Marcel Vonk who claimed the most chips and bagged up 604,000 for the overnight lead. The top five are rounded out by start-of-day chip leader Paster (588,000), Hall (553,000), Matthew Humphrey (549,000), and Saul (506,000).

Gabriel Nassif, who finished eighth in the Event #33: $1,000 No-Limit Hold'em and then jumped into this tournament, is still on track to reach his second WSOP final table in a row with 206,000 in chips.

Other familiar names were less fortunate. Humberto Brenes recorded his eighth finish in the money at the 2014 WSOP with a 102nd-place result, Mike Watson scored 81st, Layne Flack got 64th, Taylor Paur finished in 56th, and Martins Adeniya took 16th, but would have to try to win gold in the next event they play.

We'll be back Thursday with more PokerNews Live Reporting beginning at 1 p.m. Las Vegas time, and the plan is to play down to a winner with the blinds starting at 6,000/12,000.

James Hoeland Eliminated in 12th Place ($14,908)

Level 20 : 5,000/10,000, 0 ante
James Hoeland
James Hoeland

James Hoeland opened for the pot, a bet of 35,000, from the cutoff and Kevin Saul called from the button. The flop came {K-Clubs}{J-Clubs}{6-Diamonds} and Hoeland led out for a pot-sized bet of 85,000, leaving himself with just shy of 70,000. Saul thought for a moment and announced he was all in. Hoeland made the call and the players turned their hands over:

James Hoeland: {A-Spades}{A-Hearts}{J-Hearts}{3-Spades} for a pair of aces
Kevin Saul: {K-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{6-Hearts} for two pair, kings and sixes plus a flush draw

The turn did nothing to change the hand other than giving Hoeland a gutshot straight draw as it was the {Q-Spades}. Hoeland would need a ten, ace, queen, or jack (that was not a club) to stay alive. The river was the {9-Spades} improving Saul's two pair to kings and nines and that was enough to send Hoeland to the cashier to collect his 12th place winnings.

Erick Lindgren Eliminated in 13th Place ($11,957)

Level 19 : 4,000/8,000, 0 ante
Erick Lindgren
Erick Lindgren

In a previous hand, Erick Lindgren limped and then called a raise to 40,000 by Millard Hale to fold on the {5-Hearts}{K-Hearts}{A-Spades} flop after Hale bet the pot for 75,000. Shortly after, Lindgren limped again and Brandon Paster raised to 24,000 from one seat over. All opponents folded and Lindgren now reraised to 84,000. Paster pondered about his decision and ultimately made the call.

Lindgren had about 50,000 behind and moved all in after the {9-Spades}{6-Hearts}{4-Diamonds} flop. Paster made the call.

Paster: {Q-Hearts}{9-Hearts}{J-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}
Lindgren: {A-Clubs}{A-Spades}{8-Spades}{10-Diamonds}

Paster turned a huge double draw with the {10-Hearts} and the {Q-Spades} river saw him improve to a straight. Lindgren will have to settle for 13th place and headed to the payout desk.

Morgan Popham Eliminated in 14th Place ($11,957)

Morgan Popham and Matthew Humphrey exchanged raises and Popham was all in and at risk. The hands were turned over and were as follows:

Popham: {10-Hearts}{9-Hearts}{6-Clubs}{5-Clubs}
Humphrey: {K-Hearts}{K-Diamonds}{10-Spades}{4-Clubs}

The flop came {A-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}{2-Hearts} giving Popham a gutshot straight draw. The turn was the {7-Hearts} adding a heart flush draw to Popham's outs. The river, however, was the {K-Clubs} giving Humphrey a set of kings and the pot. Popham was eliminated in 14th place and Humphrey moved his stack to 410,000 with that pot.

Adam Laskey Eliminated in 15th Place ($11,957)

Adam Laskey
Adam Laskey

We saw three players to the {9-Spades}{10-Clubs}{5-Hearts} flop and Adam Laskey bet 60,000. Gabriel Nassif folded but Brandon Paster raised the pot, Laskey moved all in and was quickly called.

Paster: {9-Hearts}{10-Spades}{Q-Spades}{K-Hearts}
Laskey: [QdKd9dJh|

Laskey had a ton of outs to improve but both the {6-Spades} turn and the {6-Hearts} river blanked. Paster scooped the pot with two pair, tens and nines. Once the stack was counted, Paster had 220,000 and his opponent was covered by a small blind only.

Martins Adeniya Eliminated in 16th Place ($9,712)

Level 18 : 3,000/6,000, 0 ante
Martins Adeniya
Martins Adeniya

Galen Hall was the preflop raiser and got three callers in Martins Adeniya, Matthew Humphrey and Kevin Saul in the big blind.

Saul checked the {6-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{2-Spades} flop, Hall bet 22,000 and Adeniya raised the pot for 99,000. Humphrey and Saul both mucked their cards and Hall raised to put Adeniya at risk, who quickly called.

Hall: {10-Hearts}{10-Spades}{K-Hearts}{J-Hearts}
Adeniya: {K-Diamonds}{J-Clubs}{J-Spades}{7-Diamonds}

Top set for Hall and the flush draw for Adeniya. After the {6-Spades} turn, the Brit had one jack as out remaining in order to improve, and the {5-Hearts} river sent him to the rail in 16th place.

Michael Wang Eliminated in 17th Place ($9,712)

Level 18 : 3,000/6,000, 0 ante

Michael Wang

Erick Lindgren - or "Erick Limpgren", as his tablemates have started to call him - limped in and Michael Wang raised pot sitting one to Lindgren's left. It was folded back to Lindgren, who eyed Wang's stack and made the call. The flop came {J-Spades}{6-Clubs}{5-Clubs} and Lindgren bet the size of the pot, which was good enough to set Wang all-in.

"That's a good sign," Lindgren said when Wang didn't call right away.

Wang eventually made the call and tabled {A-Spades}{J-Clubs}{9-Spades}{9-Hearts} for a pair of jacks. Lindgren had an overpair with {K-Spades}{K-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}{4-Spades}, good enough to win the pot when the turn and river came {2-Hearts}{2-Clubs}. Wang was eliminated in 17th place and Lindgren's stack got a bit healthier in the process.

Norman Silverman Eliminated in 18th Place ($9,712)

Level 18 : 3,000/6,000, 0 ante
Norman Silverman
Norman Silverman

Kevin Saul opened for 20,000 from late position and Norman Silverman popped it to 51,000 from out of the blinds. Saul made the call and the flop came {A-Diamonds}{J-Spades}{5-Spades}. Silverman moved all-in and Saul snap-called with {K-Hearts}{J-Diamonds}{J-Hearts}{3-Spades} for a flopped set of jacks. Silverman had {A-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds}{10-Spades}{9-Hearts} and would pick up a straight on the {K-Diamonds} turn. The {A-Clubs} on the river would pair the board and give Saul a full house.

A disappointed Silverman slapped the table as he was eliminated in 18th place, a result of Saul's full house. Saul now has a commanding chip lead with 625,000 in chips.

Tyler McDonald Eliminated in 19th Place ($7,989)

A short-stacked Tyler McDonald was all-in preflop and Morgan Popham looked him up.

Popham: {K-Clubs}{A-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}
McDonald: {Q-Spades}{A-Clubs}{J-Spades}{2-Clubs}

On the {10-Clubs}{A-Spades}{7-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds} board, Popham made aces and tens to scoop the pot and McDonald hit the rail in 19th place. We now have another redraw for the last two tables.

Andreas Martens Eliminated in 20th Place ($7,989)

Level 18 : 3,000/6,000, 0 ante

Andreas Martens would get the last of his chips in against Dmitrii Valouev. The hands were as follows:

Martens: {K-Diamonds}{Q-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{4-Clubs}
Valouev: {A-Spades}{Q-Hearts}{J-Spades}{8-Hearts}

The flop could come {10-Clubs}{4-Hearts}{2-Hearts} to give Martens a pair of fours. The {6-Clubs} on the turn changed nothing. However, the {7-Hearts} on the river would give Valouev a flush which would be more than enough to eliminate Martens in 20th place.
