Event #56: $1,000 No-Limit Hold'em

Day 2 Started

Last $1,000 No-Limit Hold'em Event to Determine Finalists Today

The very last $1,000 no-limit hold'em event of the 2014 World Series Of Poker drew a big field of 2,525 entries yesterday. The money bubble burst during the night's final level when three players were eliminated in the same hand to split the min-cash of $1,840. The remainder of Level 11 can only be described as fast and furious, because another 60 or so would hit the rail and only 206 hopefuls were left to bag up chips.

Among those who made the money but had to settle for a min-cash were Elisabeth Hille, Amit Makhija, Todd Brunson, Will Failla, Lisa Hamilton, Michael Tureniec, Tony Ma, and Sebastian Pauli. Meanwhile the overnight chip leader was Raymond Chen (130,400), who edged out Giang Hoang (127,400) and Brian Altman (106,900).

Trailing the leading trio are such familiar names as Vinny Pahuja (99,500), Matthew Wakeman (92,800), Steve Gross (80,800), Mihails Morozovs (75,100), Jamie Rosen (72,000), Perry Friedman (71,000), Matt Salsberg (70,600), and Will Jaffe (70,100).

Pahuja especially will be on our list of players to watch out for, as he already finished 12th in the $ 1,000 No Limit Hold'em (Event #9), seventh in one $1,000 NLHE (Event #33) and 12th in a $1,500 NLHE (Event #44) this year.

Plenty of other notables will return to the tables at 1 p.m. local time when the action resumes. The PokerNews team will bring you all the action from the tables when the field gets whittled down during today's 10 levels of play on the way to finding yet another golden bracelet winner on Tuesday. Stay tuned!

Two Seats Open on 441

Level 12 : 600/1,200, 200 ante

Michael Opree was all in for his last 3,900 and an opponent raised to 6,600, Kenneth O'Donnell moved all in and that got the three-bettor out of the way.

Opree had {8-Clubs}{9-Clubs} and played against {A-Hearts}{10-Clubs}. The two live cards would miss on the {A-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs}{4-Spades}{10-Diamonds}{K-Clubs} board and Opree was gone. Shortly thereafter, Frank Cullen hit the rail after getting knocked out on the same table.

Goodbye Geshkenbein

Level 12 : 600/1,200, 200 ante

Eric Speicher opened and Vladimir Geshkenbein moved all in for a little under Speicher’s stack. It took a few seconds but Speicher made the call.

Geshkenbein quickly flipped over his {2-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds} and was happy to see the {a-Clubs}{k-Clubs} of Speicher.

He was out of his seat on the flop, though, as the board came {j-Spades}{a-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{4-Clubs} and Geshkenbein was out.

Schwartz on the Rise

Level 12 : 600/1,200, 200 ante

Toth Redmond raised to 2,500 and then called all in when Justin Schwartz two seats over moved all in. Schwartz had his opponent covered with more than 40,000 in chips and he also held the dominating hand with {A-Hearts}{K-Clubs} versus Redmond's {A-Diamonds}{Q-Diamonds}, with Redmond drawing dead after the turn of a {3-Hearts}{5-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{K-Diamonds}{A-Spades} board.
