Trickett Finds a Fold

Level 14 : 1,500/3,000, 0 ante

With 80,000 already in the pot and the board showing {4-Diamonds}{4-Spades}{2-Hearts}{Q-Clubs}, Andrew Patterson put out a bet of 50,000 and Sam Trickett made the call. On the {A-Clubs} river, Patterson moved all in for approximately 100,000. A frustrated Trickett took is earbud out of his ear and sighed. He hesitated, as if he wanted to make the call, but decided against it and released his hand. Patterson slid the cards over to the dealer, happy to have taken the sizable pot off of the British pro.

Baron Busts Nguyen in Epic Pot

Level 14 : 1,500/3,000, 0 ante
Isaac Baron scooped the pot of the tournament so far.
Isaac Baron scooped the pot of the tournament so far.

We found Isaac Baron in late position engaged in a raising war with Don Nguyen in the small blind on a {9-Spades}{6-Spades}{2-Spades} flop. Baron had 69,000 in front of him, and Nguyen made it 116,000 to go. Baron paused for awhile before reaching out for his four orange chips and pulling them back, indicating he was at least calling. He dropped a stack of T5,000 chips in, a raise to 165,000.

Nguyen stared at his opponent for a couple of minutes, blinking occasionally as he studied him up and down as if looking for a sign of weakness. Finally he made it 215,000 to go. Now, it was Baron's turn to tank. After about a minute, he shoved all in for Nguyen's last 175,000 or so, and Nguyen quickly called.

Baron: {a-Spades}{q-Spades}{8-Spades}{6-Clubs}
Nguyen: {9-Clubs}{9-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}

Nguyen held top set but needed to catch up to Baron's nut flush. He failed to do so on the {5-Hearts} turn and {j-Hearts} river.

"In my opinion, the nine-bet is always a sign of strength," Jonas Entin said with a laugh after Nguyen had made his exit.

"I was scared," Baron said with a smile. "I had to keep looking like...I have the {a-Spades} right?"

"They always believe my eight-bets," Entin joked.

Negreanu Eliminated

Daniel Negreanu
Daniel Negreanu

We got to the table with the action on the turn of {K-Hearts}{8-Spades}{7-Diamonds}{3-Hearts} and Daniel Negreanu with a bet of approximately 55,000 in front of him saying "look at that, I'm not going anywhere" to his opponent Mike Shklover. "That three helped you?" asked Shklover.

"Actually it did," said Negreanu. That wasn't enough to convince Shklover who raised all in. Negreanu called and their hands were turned over:

Negreanu: {K-}{J-}{4-}{3-} for two pair, kings and threes
Shklover: {A-Diamonds}{A-Spades}{J-Clubs}{2-Clubs} for a pair of aces

Negreanu was in the lead with his two pair but he would need to dodge an eight, seven, or ace to double up. It wasn't in the cards for Kid Poker as the river was the {A-Clubs}.

"Nice hand," said Negreanu, adding "good luck everyone" as he headed off, his WSOP done until the Main Event.

Daniel NegreanuUgh! Bubbles again in PLO. Had it all in vs 8 outs with one to come but he got that. That's a wrap for my WSOP till the main event!

Idema Picks Off Laak

Level 14 : 1,500/3,000, 0 ante

Phil Laak opened to 6,000, and Daniel Idema made it 20,000. Everyone folded back to Laak, who made the call. Both players checked the {j-Diamonds}{k-Spades}{q-Clubs} flop, and likewise on the {5-Spades} turn.

"How much is out there?" Laak asked after the {9-Hearts} hit the river. Told it was 44,000, he bet 33,000.

Idema cut out a call and dropped it into the pot, causing Laak to start laughing.

"You got it," he said.

Idema showed {j-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{7-Diamonds} for a straight to the king.

Neumann Doubles Through Durkee

Level 14 : 1,500/3,000, 0 ante

With 30,000 already in the pot and a board of {9-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}, Will Durkee led out for 12,500 and was raised by Marko Neumann to 46,000. Durkee made the call and Neumann would move all in for his last 73,800 after the dealer put out the {4-Diamonds} on the turn. Durkee thought about it for a moment and made the call. Their hands:

Neumann: {5-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}{2-Clubs} for a flopped set of deuces plus a small diamond flush draw
Durkee: {Q-Hearts}{J-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds} for a pair of nines with a diamond flush draw

The river was the {K-Clubs} and Neumann's three deuces would win the pot moving his stack to 270,000 while Durkee was chopped down to just 70,000.
