Walthaus Doesn't Back Down

Level 8 : 400/800, 100 ante
Jorn Walthaus
Jorn Walthaus

Jorn Walthaus was the second player to get knocked out during last year's final day of the summer, as he finished in 26th place in the 2014 World Series of Poker Main Event. The Dutchman's back for more this year and he just won a big pot without showdown.

The player on the button raised to 2,100 and Walthaus three-bet from the big blind to 5,800. The button called and the flop brought out {2-Hearts}{5-Clubs}{7-Hearts}, on which Walthaus bet 6,700.

Walthaus' opponent raised it up to 13,400 and the Dutchman responded by shoving all in for an additional 30,400.

The button tanked for quite a while and eventually he let his hand go. Walthaus raked in the chips and he's now sitting on a comfortable stack midway through Day 2.

Jacobson vs. Gorr

Level 8 : 400/800, 100 ante

With around 22,000 in the pot and a board reading {k-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{2-Spades}{9-Spades}, David Gorr checked from the big blind and Martin Jacobson did the same from the button.

"Check?" Gorr confirmed before tabling the {k-Clubs}{q-Diamonds} for kings and fives with a queen kicker. It was good as Jacobson sent his cards to the muck. Not much of a hand, but it gave us a good excuse to update you on both their counts.

Russ Binks a Heartbreaker

Level 8 : 400/800, 100 ante

Samuel Moore bet 11,000 after two players checked to him on an {8-Clubs}{4-Hearts}{5-Spades}{5-Clubs} board. Robert Russ shoved all in from the big blind, and another player shoved behind that. Moore laid his hand down.

Russ: {5-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}
Opponent: {a-Hearts}{5-Hearts}

"He's got the ace-five, and he's got the thirty-five," the dealer growled. "Alright."

He burned and turned and brought out the {3-Diamonds}, filling Russ up.

"Oh my God!" the player with {a-Hearts}{5-Hearts} said. "Oh my God..."

"Sorry, man," Russ said.

"That'll rip your heart out," a player at the table said, shaking his head.

Ho Can't Beat Flush

Level 8 : 400/800, 100 ante

We found Maria Ho and an opponent looking down at a completed board of {6-Hearts}{9-Clubs}{Q-Clubs}{3-Spades}{6-Clubs}. With about 12,000 already in the pot, Ho's opponent fired out a bet of 8,200. This bet sent Ho deep into the tank.

After about 90 seconds, Ho reached for chips and flung out a call. Her opponent rolled over {8-Clubs}{7-Clubs} for a club flush, prompting Ho to muck her hand. She's now sitting right around 62,000 in chips.

Musumeci, Timoshenko & Le Among Recent Eliminations

Level 8 : 400/800, 100 ante

We saw Amanda Musumeci exiting the Amazon Purple Section, and a quick check with her former table confirmed that she had just been eliminated.

It happened when Musumeci, who had been nursing a short-stack all of Day 2a, shoved all in for her last 8,700 or so holding the {k-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}. Unfortunately for her, John Owens of Raleigh, North Carolina woke up with {a-}{a-}. The board ran out clean and that was all she wrote for Musumeci.

Meanwhile, both Yevgeniy Timoshenko and Nam Le were eliminated in unknown action.

Vadaccino Finds Aces at the Right Time

Level 8 : 400/800, 100 ante

Vegard Nygaard opened the action with a raise to 2,000 and Mikiyo Aoki called. Daniele Vadaccino raised it to 5,500 from the small blind and the player in the big blind moved all in. Nygaard and Aoki quickly folded and Vadaccino was just as quick to call. Vadaccino had {A-Clubs}{A-Spades}, which crushed his opponent's {A-Hearts}{J-Hearts}. The board would run out {3-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{6-Clubs}{5-Clubs} and Vadacinno - who hasn't had much go his way today - would double up to 60,000.

In the meantime, Nygaard is sitting on one of the biggest stacks in the tournament with 205,000 in chips. Aoki has worked her way up from a short stack to 83,000.
