Poirier Flushes Away Dentale

Level 6 : 150/300, 0 ante
Mike Dentale
Mike Dentale

Steven Poirier raised to 800 from under the gun and Mike Dentale called next to act. The player in the cutoff called and they went three-handed to the {8-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{2-Hearts} flop.

Poirier checked to Dentale who bet 3,000 and the player in the cutoff folded. With the action back on Poirier, he check-raised to 10,000 and Dental moved all in for his last 11,500. Poirier called, turning over {q-Hearts}{q-Spades}{j-Diamonds}{9-Hearts} for a flopped flush, and Dentale showed {q-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{5-Spades}{5-Clubs} for middle set.

"One time," Dentale said to the dealer as he looked for the board to pair, but the {a-Hearts} turn and {7-Clubs} river were no help to Dentale. Poirier scooped the pot and Dentale headed straight to the cashier to reenter.

Russell Doubles Through Michalek

Level 6 : 150/300, 0 ante

Jeff Russell and Norman Michalek were heads up on the {a-Spades}{k-Hearts}{7-Spades} flop. Russell checked to Michalek who bet 1,300 and Russell check-raised all in for 4,600. Michalek quickly called, turning over {a-Clubs}{q-Spades}{10-Spades}{2-Spades}, and Russell showed {k-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{5-Hearts}.

The turn {7-Diamonds} improved Russell to a full house with sevens full of kings. The {9-Spades} completed the board and Russel earned the double-up.

We are now approaching 1,000 entries here in the second Event #19: $565 Pot-Limit Omaha flight and the Brasilia room is bursting at the seams. Two-time WSOP bracelet winner Scott Clements has joined the Day 1b field.

Clements won his first WSOP bracelet in 2006 winning the $3,000 Omaha Hi/Lo event for $301,175. He followed it up at the 38th World Series of Poker, winning the $1,500 Pot-Limit Omaha event, earning $194,206 and his second WSOP bracelet.

Clements is currently hovering around the 5,000 starting stack but will surely be one to keep an eye on as the tournament progresses.

Elder Adds to His Stack

Level 4 : 75/150, 0 ante

Brett Elder raised to 525 from under the gun and JC Tran called from the button. The player in the big blind called and they went three-handed to the {k-Clubs}{q-Spades}{6-Hearts} flop.

The big blind checked and Elder tossed out a bet of 900. Tran quickly folded and the big blind called. The turn was the {k-Spades} and both players knuckled the felt. Edler tabled his {a-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}{j-Spades}{9-Spades} and his queen was enough to earn him the pot.

Smith Sends One to the Rail

Level 3 : 50/100, 0 ante

A player in early position raised to 300 and Matthew Smith called in middle position. The hi-jack called and they went three handed to the {q-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{10-Hearts} flop and the early position player bet 1,150.

Smith called and the hi-jack player folded. They went heads up to the {9-Hearts} turn and the player moved his remaining stack of 2,950 all in. Smith snap called and his opponent asked "do you have a full house." Sure enough Smith tabled {q-Hearts}{q-Clubs}{j-Clubs}{k-Spades} for queens full of tens.

His opponent was drawing dead holding {j-Spades}{9-Clubs}{8-Spades}{3-Clubs} for a turned straight. The meaningless {k-Hearts} hit the river and Smith scored the knockout.
