Jesse Sylvia Bags Big on Day 1 of Event #30: $1,500 Pot-Limit Omaha

Level 10 : 500/1,000, 0 ante
Jesse Sylvia
Jesse Sylvia

Event #30: $1,500 Pot-Limit Omaha drew a total of 799 entries creating a prizepool of over $1,000,000 and after 10 levels of Day 1 play it's Michael Heritsch leading the way with 141,000.

Heritsch vaulted to the top of the counts after turning a straight against the pocket aces and pocket kings of two opponents and he never looked back after that.

Jesse Sylvia, the 2012 WSOP Main Event runner-up, started to heat up on the mid stages of Day 1. He raked in pot after pot in the last level of the night and will return to Day 2 near the top of the chip counts with 92,800.

Farid Jattin caught fire late in the night putting one of the biggest stacks in the bag with 111,300. Mike Shin held strong near the top of the chip counts throughout the day and finished strong with 121,600. They're eclipsed by Frank Williams (128,100) and Aaron Anderson (123,700), who sit in second and third after Day 1.

Just 130 players will be moving on to Day 2 and players are ten eliminations away from the money as the final 120 players will be guaranteed at least $2,255 for their efforts.

There was certainly no shortage of action on Day 1, where plenty of big names were among the players that fell by the wayside, including Phil Laak, Jennifer Tilly, Barny Boatman, Alex Foxen, Craig Varnell and Connor Drinan just to name a few.

The players will return on Friday, 15 June at 12 p.m. local time to the Amazon room to resume Day 2 play and the blinds will be 600/1,200. The Day 2 players will play 10 levels with 15-min breaks every two levels and a one-hour dinner break after level 6. PokerNews will be on the floor to cover this event wire to wire so make sure to regularly return as the 2018 World Series of Poker rolls on.

Solomon Busts Williamson

Level 7 : 250/500, 0 ante
Robert Williamson
Robert Williamson

A first player limped and Robert Williamson on the button made it to 2,250. Jarred Solomon three-bet to 6,250 and after some thought, only Williamson made the call.

Solomon bet 4,000 before the {a-Clubs}{3-Spades}{10-Hearts} fell, putting Williamson's tournament at risk. He ended up calling for his last 2,700 and the players tabled their cards:

Robert Williamson: {k-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{k-Clubs}{j-Hearts}
Jared Solomon: {3-Clubs}{j-Clubs}{a-Hearts}{q-Hearts}

A {9-Clubs} fell on the turn but the river {q-Clubs} gave Solomon the flush and eliminated Williamson. Solomon now has a comfortable stack worth around 64,000.

Meeusen Eliminates Laplante

Level 6 : 200/400, 0 ante
Ryan Laplante
Ryan Laplante

A short stacked Ryan Laplante was in the big blind with 225 chips. The under the gun player raised to 1,000 and Kevin Meeusen called from the cutoff. The small blind folded and Laplante was at risk for his tournament life.

Both players checked down the {10-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}{6-Spades}{q-Clubs} runout and Laplante tabled his {j-Clubs}{j-Hearts}{k-Spades}{5-Hearts} for a pair of jacks. The under the gun player showed {a-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}. Meeusen turned over {a-Spades}{q-Spades}{k-Clubs}{7-Hearts} and his pair of queens on the river was enough to earn him the pot and eliminate Laplante.
