"A Million Outs" Not Enough for Vornicu

Level 18 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante
Gerald Ringe
Gerald Ringe

A four-way pot had already accumulated 45,000 chips by sixth street, when a bet by Gerald Ringe dropped the field to two - Valentin Vornicu the only caller.

Ringe: {x-}{x-}/{a-Hearts}{k-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{3-Hearts}
Vornicu: {x-}{x-}/{a-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}{2-Spades}{j-Clubs}

Ringe checked the river, and Vornicu threw in an 8,000 bet, called sharpish by Ringe. Vornicu said, "I have nothing. Pair of deuces," showing the {2-Clubs}. Ringe showed two pair, fives and threes to win the pot, his full hand {5-Spades}{3-Spades}{6-Clubs}/{a-Hearts}{k-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{3-Hearts}.

"I had a million outs," said Vornicu.

Rep Porter: {x-}{x-}/{q-Hearts}{4-Spades}{5-Hearts}{10-Spades}/{x-}
Timothy Frazin: {x-}{x-}/{8-Spades}{q-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}{5-Spades}/{x-}

Timothy Frazin fired bets on fourth and fifth streets and Rep Porter called both. The action then checked through on each of the final two streets, and Porter showed down the {a-Clubs}{q-Clubs}{k-Diamonds} for the pair of queens.

Frazin mucked and said "I'm not used to missing, first time all tournament!"

Jean Gaspard Busts in 20th

Level 17 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante
Jean Gaspard
Jean Gaspard

"Let's get it all in now," said Jean Gaspard to Rod Pardey Jr on fifth street.

Gaspard: {x-}{x-}/{j-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{10-Clubs}
Pardey Jr: {x-}{x-}/{a-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}{k-Hearts}

The betting had begun with Pardey Jr and been raised back and forth until Gaspard announced his all-in intention, showing {10-Diamonds}{7-Spades} in the hole for two pair. Pardey Jr's {a-Diamonds}{q-Clubs} in the hole transformed to two higher pair with the {q-Clubs} being dealt, sending Gaspard to the rail in 20th, where he collects $3,061.

Vornicu Wins a Pot vs. Caskey

Level 17 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante
Valentin Vornicu
Valentin Vornicu

Ryan Caskey, showing {x-}{x-}/{6-Hearts} completed, then called when Valentin Vornicu raised to see another card with {x-}{x-}/{k-Clubs}. Vornicu continued to bet through the next two streets until sixth came down:

Vornicu: {x-}{x-}/{k-Clubs}{j-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}
Caskey: {x-}{x-}/{6-Hearts}{2-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{a-Hearts}

Now with the high card, Caskey was first to act, and bet 8,000 himself. Vornicu called. Both players checked the final street and Vornicu won with two pair, showing {8-Clubs}{6-Clubs} in the hole, the flush draw on fourth street having failed to materialise but the outcome still in his favour.

Ringe Gets Max Value From Van Dervolgen

Level 17 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante

Gerald Ringe: {x-}{x-}/{7-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{j-Hearts}{8-Spades}/{x-}
Andrew Van Dervolgen {x-}{x-}/{9-Clubs}{10-Hearts}{7-Spades}{10-Clubs}{x-}

A four-way hand narrowed down to a heads-up battle between Gerald Ringe and Andrew Van Dervolgen on sixth street. Van Dervolgen bet, Ringe raised, Van Dervolgen called and the players proceeded to the river.

Van Dervolgen checked, Ringe put out a bet, and got the call. Ringe turned over {10-Spades}{6-Spades}{5-Hearts}, giving him the ten-high straight with {10-Spades}{9-Hearts}{8-Spades}{7-Diamonds}{6-Spades}.

High School Reunion for Labate and Singer

Level 17 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante
Frank Labate
Frank Labate

Two players still in with three tables left have history - and not at the poker table. Frank Labate told us that it's been 40 years since he was in high school with David Singer. They shared a table earlier today; it took some prompting from Labate ("Do you like bowling? Where did you go to school?") for Singer to place his first name, the surname coming back to him shortly thereafter. Late in a bracelet event at the WSOP is certainly one of the most unusual places for old schoolmates to come across one another.
