Day 2 of Event #26: THE MARATHON - $2,620 No-Limit Hold'em is Set to Begin
The action for Day 2 of Event #24: $2,620 THE MARATHON No-Limit Hold'em is set to kick off at 12:00 p.m local time at the Rio All Suite Hotel & Casino. A field of 941 players took their seats on Day 1 and 467 runners found a bag to return on Day 2. With registration being still available for the first two levels of day 2 (≈ 4:50 p.m.), more players will be entering this event.
Peter Hong bagged the chip lead on Day 1 with a stack of 179,000 chips. He is followed closely by Christoper Godfrey with 177,200 and Scott Menard with 171,700.
Note that following the lead of Corentin Ropert holding 134,300, a contingent of 18 french players managed to stay in the run for Day 2, including Sylvain Loosli, who finished fourth in the 2014 Main Event and Paul-Francois Tedeschi (57,700) who will try to reach the 23rd WSOP cash of his career.
And since it is about the Marathon, the Greek nation, at the origin of the famous run after the Athenian army defeated the invading Persian army in a battle in the plain of Marathon in 490 B.C., is still represented by Alexandros Theologis (81,800), Kyriakos Papadopouluos (37,400) and the Greek-American Athanasios Polychronopoulos (24,400), owner of two WSOP bracelets.
Some of the notables that will come into Day 2 include former WSOP bracelet winners include 2006 Main Event Champion Jamie Gold (50,200), Andre Akkari (50,900), Eric Baldwin(49,300) Nial Farrell(41,800), Gaurav Raina (41,300), Adrian Mateos (32,300), Mario Prats Garcia (30,100), Diogo Veiga (24,900), Christopher Frank (22,700) and Kristen Bickell who will need some luck to improve her short stack of 6,500. They all will all be looking to add more gold to their collection.
When play resumes today, the blinds will be at 300/600 with a 600 ante. Blinds will increase every 100 minutes and six more levels will be played. There will be a 15-minute break at the end of every level and a 60-minute dinner break after Level 4, around 8:20 p.m.

In one of the first hands of the day, Harald Sammer and Rafael Ferreira were heads-up in a pot. The flop read 
and Sammer tossed in a bet from the hijack which Ferreira called.
The turn was the

Farrell Bombs the River

Picking up the action on the turn with the board reading 
, Joey Weissman led out for 1,300 from the big blind into a pot of around 5,000. Niall Farrell raised to 4,500 in the hijack and Weissman called.
The river was the 
and Weissman checked. Farrell went into the tank for a couple of minutes before dropping in a large bet of 25,000. Weissman took his turn in the tank for a few minutes and eventually made the call. Farrell turned over 
for a full house and scooped the pot.

Fast Loses a Small One

It folded to Dietrich Fast in the small blind who completed and Jason Wandling checked. The flop 
was checked and Fast check-called a bet for 1,000 on the turn.

Lampropulos Gets a Double Up on Borg

The board read and the pot already contained around 10,000 when Maria Lapropulos checked. Ronni Borg bet 5,600 from the cutoff and Lampropulos three-bet to 18,000. After a minute, Borg opted to call.
The 
completed the board and Lampropulos tanked for some time and announced all in for 41,000 after the clock has been called, putting Borg into a decision. The latter ended up making the call with

Alfaro Gets Two Big Folds

Sylvain Loosli opened to 1,600 from under the gun and was called by Hugo Alfaro in the small blind and Gary Hasson in the big blind. The flop fell 
and the blinds checked to Loosli who continued for 2,500.
Alfaro just called and Hasson check-raised to 7,800. Loosli made the call only to have Alfaro shove all in for 53,500. Hasson went into the tank for a couple of minutes before finally letting his hand go. Loosli also a big decision as he thought for a minute but eventually to decided to lay his hand down as well.

Action Flop, Action Turn Results in a Xu Double Up

There was a massive pot building on Table 299 and Yicheng Xu was heads-up with Marko Maher. The board read 
and it appeared that both players stuck in around 20,000 chips apiece on the turn.
The river brought the and Xu moved all in for 41,400. Maher quickly called and Xu flipped over for quad sevens. Maher showed his 
, revealing he wasn't even drawing dead on the turn.
"That was an action flop," Maher said.
"It was an action turn," Xu replied.
