Sewell's Sweatin'

Level 7 : 600/1,200, 1,200 ante

A player raised to 4,100 from early position and was called by a middle position opponent before California's Gary Sewell three-bet shoved for 25,100 in the hijack. The early position player thought for a few moments before four-bet jamming, which quickly chased off the middle position player.

Gary Sewell: {a-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}
Opponent: {a-Clubs}{q-Clubs}

Sewell's Big Slick looked good on the {10-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}{3-Clubs} flop, but his opponent picked up the nut-flush draw on the {4-Clubs} turn.

Sewell's opponent said, "Five!" in hopes of at least a chop, as the turn also gave both players a wheel draw, but the {7-Diamonds} river was safe for Sewell's double-up.

"Wow, had to sweat that one!" Sewell said with a smile as he scooped in the pot.

Eckstein's Turn With Aces

Level 7 : 600/1,200, 1,200 ante

John Utley, one of the current chip leaders of the tournament right now with a stack eclipsing 400,000, raised to 3,000 from early position, and the hijack three-bet to 10,000. San Diego's Ian Eckstein announced a four-bet to 22,000, and action folded back to the hijack, who five-bet shoved for just slightly more. Eckstein snapped him off.

Hijack: {q-Spades}{q-Diamonds}
Ian Eckstein: {a-Spades}{a-Diamonds}

Eckstein's aces held on the {9-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{7-Spades} flop, and while the next two cards were paint, the {j-Diamonds} turn and {k-Clubs} river were safe, eliminating the hijack.

Canseco Continues to Climb

Level 7 : 600/1,200, 1,200 ante
Jose Canseco
Jose Canseco

Former Major League Baseball player Jose Canseco faced an 1200-chip open and a call from two early position players, and three-bet to 5000 on the button. The under the gun player called and went heads-up to the flop against Canseco.

The flop came {10-Hearts}{2-Spades}{5-Hearts}, and the under the gun player checked. Canseco put in a continuation bet for 10,000 and got a call, bringing the {q-Hearts} on the turn.

The under the gun player checked again, and Canseco fired another 10,000 and got called. The river came the {q-Clubs} and both players checked, and Canseco showed {a-Spades}{q-Clubs} to drag a 54,200 pot.

"I was afraid of the flush," Canseco said of his check back on the river. The former baseball star has now amassed a 167,000 chip stack.

Higgins Wakes Up With Rockets

Level 7 : 600/1,200, 1,200 ante

A player limped in from under the gun, and an early position player raised to 4,800. A player in middle position three-bet shoved for 29,900, and Oregon's William Higgins four-bet jammed in the hijack for 56,200. Action folded back to the early position player, who flicked a single chip in the pot to call.

Middle Position: {7-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}
William Higgins: {a-Diamonds}{a-Spades}
Early Position: {k-Clubs}{k-Hearts}

"I knew it!" the player with kings said.

A {3-Spades}{6-Clubs}{3-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}{j-Spades} board left Higgins clapping and saying "Yes!" as he eliminated one opponent while doubling through the other.

Minkin's Stack Takes a Hit

Level 6 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante

John Utley bet 2100, Kelly Minkin called on his immediate right and another player in middle position called, going three ways to the flop.

The flop came {5-Spades}{10-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}, and Utley checked. Minkin put a bet into the pot, the middle position player folded, and Utley put in a check-raise all-in, forcing Minkin to make a decision for her last 40,000 chips.

Minkin shot Utley a look and tanked for a minute before folding. Utley now stands at a healthy 350,000 chips.

Weisner's Bluff Doesn't Get Through

Level 6 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante

Melanie Weisner has been eliminated after her three-barrel bluff couldn't force a fold from her opponent.

Weisner fired 6500 into the pot from middle position on a {4-Clubs}{2-Spades}{2-Hearts} flop, and her opponent in the big blind called. The turn came {8-Spades}, and Weisner bet again for 12,000, and once again the big blind called.

The {j-Diamonds} hit on the river, and Weisner pushed her last 20,700 into the pot. Her opponent tanked for several minutes before finally making the call, and Wesiner turned over {k-Hearts}{q-Clubs}, which was no good against the big blind's {9-Hearts}{9-Spades}.

Zou Hangs on With Jacks

Level 6 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante

Michigan's Henry Zou bet 4,500 from early position on a {2-Clubs}{6-Spades}{9-Spades} flop, and his lone opponent in middle position raised to 11,000. Zou called.

The {10-Diamonds} fell on the turn, and both players quickly checked to the {3-Spades} river.

"I check!" Zou said, and his opponent responded by betting 16,000. Zou flung in a call after a few seconds and quickly tabled {j-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}. His opponent mucked.

"I can't fold that!" a smiling Zou told the table.
