Last Year's Runner Up Ryan Hughes Leads Final Table of $2,500 Mixed Big Bet

Level 20 : 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante
Ryan Hughes
Ryan Hughes

Two-time bracelet winner Ryan Hughes eyed to add number three when he cruised to the heads up of the $2,500 Mixed Big Bet last year, but he couldn't eliminate Scott Bohlman. This time, Hughes has already done that. He dispatched the defending champion in eighth place to set the final table lineup.

Moreover, it is Hughes himself who captains the ship, leading the last seven players who made it through a field of 218 entries. He is in possession of 1,212,000, more than a third of all chips in play.

Hughes' surge towards the big lead kicked off on the last two tables when he pulled off a gutsy bluff with nut blockers in Big O, forcing a river-fold from Phil Hui. Hughes then started tackling his opponents one by one, eliminating Jared Bleznick, Ray Henson, and Bohlman.

Hughes is certainly a favorite to win the $127,808 top-prize, considering his position and experience of playing on a final table of this very event. At the moment, Hughes' biggest concern might be the seating order. Arthur Morris, who is second in chips with 728,000 sits directly to his left.

Morris and Jonathan Depa are the only players at the final table who are yet to win a bracelet. Loren Klein is the most accomplished player among the final seven when it comes to claiming the WSOP hardware; he's done it three times.

Klein, however, has his work cut out for him should he aim for his fourth notch. He is in last place with only 95,000.

Hui, Joey Couden, and Mike Sexton are also vying for the title, so it is fair to say that the mixed big bet final table boasts a ton of talent. Come back to PokerNews on Thursday, June 20, at 2 p.m. PDT to find out whether some of them adds another piece to their showcase or if a first-time champion will be crowned.

Scott Bohlman Eliminated in 8th Place ($12,240)

No-Limit 5-Card Draw

Ryan Hughes opened the button to 20,000 and he called when Scott Bohlman pushed his last 34,000 from the small blind.

Both players pitched three and Hughes was ahead with {k-Clubs}{k-Diamonds} versus {9-Hearts}{9-Spades}.

Bohlman peeled his new cards one by one and he pulled ahead as he finished with {q-Clubs}{q-Hearts}{9-Hearts}{9-Spades}{4-}.

Hughes then did the same and his last card gave him superior two pair as he made {k-Clubs}{k-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}{j-Hearts}{9-Clubs}.

Hughes, who finished second to Bohlman last year in this very event, got his revenge. He's now leading the tournament with the remaining seven players taking their seats at the final table.

Pot-Limit Omaha Hi-Lo

Arhur Morris raised to 15,000 on his button and David Benyamine called in the big blind.

They went to a {k-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{7-Clubs} flop and all the chips went into the middle as Benyamine checked, Morris bet 30,000, and a sequence of potting and repotting resulted in a showdown with more than a 500,000-pot to race for.

Morris: {a-Hearts}{a-Clubs}{7-Hearts}{3-Spades}
Benyamine: {k-Hearts}{5-Spades}{5-Hearts}{4-Spades}

The rest of the board ran out {2-Spades} and {q-Clubs} and Morris scooped the massive pot, busting Benyamine in 11th place.

Pot-Limit Omaha

Loren Klein raised to 8,000 in the cutoff, Ray Henson called on the button, and Scott Bohlman squeezed to 35,000 out of the small blind. Klein called and Henson folded.

The flop fell {4-Clubs}{2-Clubs}{6-Diamonds} and Bohlman checked. Klein said, "I'm all in," and Bohlman said the same. Nobody cared about the pot.

"We're all in," Klein summarized that both players had the same intention without counting anything.

Bohlman: {a-Diamonds}{a-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}
Klein: {9-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{7-Clubs}

Bohlman was ahead but Klein had all kinds of outs. However, he wouldn't see any of them as the board rolled out {6-Spades} and {2-Diamonds}.

Bohlman had 131,000 behind and the whopping double pushed him close to the top stacks on the leaderboard.

Pot-Limit 2-7 Triple Draw

Scott Bohlman raised to 6,000 in the hijack and David Benyamine made it 20,000 in the cutoff. Bohlman potted, and called for 97,800 total when Benyamine repotted.

Both players pitched one card on the first two draws and Bohlman patted the last draw. Benyamine still needed one, breaking a ten.

Bohlman showed {10-}{7-}{5-}{3-}{2-} and Benyamine rolled over {7-}{6-}{4-}{2-}, having made a good break. However, he peeled another {10-} and Bohlman scooped the 200,000-pot to continue his title-defending campaign.

Baker Eliminated by Morris in Largest Pot of the Tournament

Level 15 : 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante
David "Bakes" Baker
David "Bakes" Baker

Pot-Limit 2-7 Triple Draw

With action caught following the first draw, Arthur Morris fired 15,000 into 17,000 from the small blind. David "Bakes" Baker potted for 62,000 from the cutoff, and Morris paused for a while. He asked how much did Baker have behind and Baker counted his exact remaining stack at 63,700.

After over a minute, Morris jammed and Baker snap-called.

Morris stood pat, Baker drew one and he still needed one on the final draw.

"Eight-seven perfect," Morris announced, rolling over {8-}{7-}{4-}{3-}{2-}. Baker opened {7-}{5-}{4-}{2-}, drawing to a wheel. He peeled an {8-}, however, and that wasn't enough.

Morris dragged the gigantic pot while Baker was headed to the payouts. Morris is now an overwhelming chip leader with around 385,000.
