PokerNews' Grant Flopped Dead

Level 8 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante

PokerNews live reporter Calum Grant shoved all in with a flop of {6-Spades}{7-Spades}{7-Clubs} and John Sturges confidently threw in a call chip, putting himself at risk.

John Sturges: {7-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}
Calum Grant: {a-Spades}{j-Spades}

Grant thought himself to be a favorite but quickly realized he was drawing dead to Sturges' flopped quads, and the runout of {6-Diamonds}{5-Spades} did nothing to change the outcome. Sturges received a full double up for his efforts.

Janiga Binks a Jack to Survive Against Richards

Level 8 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante

Sergio Rejas opened to 3,000 from late position, Connor Richards three-bet shoved for about 40,000 and Brett Janiga called all in with the shorter stack. Rejas let it go.

Brett Janiga: {j-Clubs}{j-Spades}
Connor Richards: {q-Diamonds}{q-Clubs}

Richards held the better pair but that changed on the {8-Spades}{8-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds} flop. The turn {8-Hearts} and river {k-Spades} were no help to Richards as Janiga made jacks full to double up.

Wheeler Scores a Double Knockout

Level 7 : 400/800, 800 ante

The PokerNews team was called over to the table with {j-Spades}{8-Hearts}{9-Spades} on the board and Amanda Wheeler was all-in against two opponents:

Amanda Wheeler: {a-Spades}{3-Spades}
Opponent: {9-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}
Opponent: {q-Clubs}{10-Clubs}

The {k-Hearts} turn further improved the player with the flopped straight but the {7-Spades} on the river gave Wheeler the nut flush and the rights to the 60,000 pot which resulted in two knockouts.

Battle of the Brits

Level 7 : 400/800, 800 ante

PokerNews live reporters, Calum Grant and Will Shillibier may soon go from friends to foes. These housemates have just found themselves at the same table and as we all know, there are no friends in poker.

It is early in the tournament so it's still anyone's game right now. We'd love to see them heads-up against each other and if that happens, may the best man win!

West Gets There Against Colquhoun

Level 7 : 400/800, 800 ante
Brandon West
Brandon West

With 8,000 already in the middle and the flop showing {j-Spades}{10-Hearts}{9-Clubs}, Shaun Colquhoun bet 10,000 and Brandon West shoved for 22,000. Colquhoun quickly called with the bigger stack.

Brandon West: {q-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}
Shaun Colquhoun: {j-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}

Colquhoun was ahead with his two pair but the turn brought the {8-Hearts} to give West a straight. The {7-Hearts} hit the river and West survived. Colquhoun still holds one of the bigger stacks in the room.
