Cowen Drags In Healthy Pot Versus Mercier

Level 20 : 20,000/40,000, 40,000 ante

Jason Mercier and Robert Cowen once more tangled in a duel big blind versus under the gun, which led to a board of {9-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}{2-Spades}{k-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}. Mercier bet 330,000 and that sent Cowen into the tank. He used one time bank extension and made the call for Mercier to declare a pair of sixes.

Cowen had that beat with the {a-Spades}{a-Hearts}{9-Hearts}{4-Spades} for two pair and won the pot.

"Nice call with aces," Aaron Katz said to then notice the two pair and correct himself.

Kempton Doubles Through Heritsch

Level 20 : 20,000/40,000, 40,000 ante
Isaac Kempton
Isaac Kempton

Michael Heritsch defended his big blind and then got it in after the {a-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{8-Spades} flop against Isaac Kempton, who was at risk for 385,000.

Isaac Kempton: {a-Spades}{8-Hearts}{5-Spades}{4-Clubs}
Michael Heritsch: {k-Spades}{k-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{5-Clubs}

Neither the {2-Hearts} turn nor the {4-Spades} river were a threat for Kempton and he secured the double-up.

Riordan Busts Right After Doubling through Mercier

Level 20 : 20,000/40,000, 40,000 ante
John Riordan
John Riordan

John Riordan limped in from under the gun and Jason Mercier raised the pot to 180,000. Riordan called and the flop came {10-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}. Riordan checked to Mercier who again bet the pot of 460,000. Riordan jammed all in for 635,000 and Mercier snap-called.

Riordan flopped a set of tens with {10-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{5-Hearts} while Mercier needed to catch an ace with {a-Clubs}{a-Diamonds}{10-Spades}{2-Hearts}. The {9-Hearts} on the turn and the {q-Spades} on the river meant a double-up for Riordan.

On the very next hand, Mercier opened to 85,000 and Riordan called from the big blind. The flop fell {q-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}{2-Clubs} and Riordan checked to Mercier who continued for 70,000. Riordan check-raised to 280,000 and Mercier just called.

The turn brought the {4-Diamonds} and Riordan bet the pot of 790,000. Mercier raised all in and Riordan quickly called. Mercier rolled over {9-Spades}{9-Clubs}{7-Spades}{7-Hearts} for a set of sevens while Riordan was down to three outs with {10-Spades}{10-Hearts}{2-Spades}{2-Diamonds}.

The river was the {k-Clubs} and Mercier's set of sevens held on to eliminate Riordan just moments after doubling him up.

Rast Next To Bust Against Dudley

Level 20 : 20,000/40,000, 40,000 ante
Brian Rast
Brian Rast

Brian Rast raised the pot to 140,000 from under the gun and it folded to Dash Dudley on the button, who repotted to 480,000. Isaac Kempton quickly folded before it was up to Andjelko Andrejevic to act out of the big blind. He used four time bank extensions before folding and Rast then bolted out of his chair.

"It's not a good hand but I am too short to fold," he mulled it over while pondering about the decision. He then called it off for 385,000 in total.

Brian Rast: {q-Diamonds}{9-Spades}{8-Spades}{6-Diamonds}
Dash Dudley: {q-Hearts}{j-Clubs}{j-Spades}{9-Hearts}

"Oh no, not that hand," Rast said as his holding was a bad match-up against Dudley's cards but "at least my suits are live", Rast added.

However, the board ran out {10-Clubs}{6-Hearts}{3-Spades}{k-Clubs}{5-Hearts} and that spelled the end for Rast.

Ugly River Sends Yu Home

Level 20 : 20,000/40,000, 40,000 ante
Ben Yu
Ben Yu

Ben Yu was one of the short stacks left in the field and raised it up from the cutoff. Jason Mercier was in the big blind and stuck in a three-bet, as the two players got all of their chips in the middle with Yu at risk for around 400,000.

Ben Yu: {a-Clubs}{q-Clubs}{6-Spades}{3-Spades}
Jason Mercier: {9-Hearts}{8-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}

The flop came {5-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds} to give Yu a six-high straight. The {a-Hearts} on the turn changed nothing but it was the {6-Diamonds} on the river that made Mercier a bigger straight, sending Yu home before the money.

Stojanovic Felted by Dudley

Level 20 : 20,000/40,000, 40,000 ante
Manuel Stojanovic
Manuel Stojanovic

In a battle of the blinds, Manuel Stojanovic limped in and Dash Dudley raised the pot to 120,000. Stojanovic limp-raised to 360,000 and Dudley used one time bank before making the call.

On a flop of {a-Clubs}{j-Clubs}{3-Clubs}, Stojanovic got the last of it in and was quickly called by Dudley.

Manuel Stojanovic: {a-Hearts}{k-Hearts}{7-Clubs}{3-Spades}
Dash Dudley: {j-Diamonds}{j-Spades}{10-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}

Stojanovic needed an ace or running cards to avoid the elimination but bricked off on the {9-Hearts} turn and {8-Hearts} river runout.

Lamb Rivers a Wheel

Level 20 : 20,000/40,000, 40,000 ante

Brian Rast raised to 80,000 on the button and Ben Lamb three-bet to 270,000 in the small blind. Rast called and they went heads-up to a flop.

"You on a draw, Rast?" Lamb asked before the dealer spread the flop of {9-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}. Lamb pushed all in for 440,000 and Rast instantly called.

Ben Lamb: {a-Spades}{a-Hearts}{q-Spades}{4-Hearts}
Brian Rast: {k-Spades}{k-Clubs}{9-Hearts}{5-Spades}

Rast out-flopped Lamb's aces with two pair and the {7-Hearts} on the turn changed nothing. However, the {2-Hearts} on the river gave Lamb a straight and a full double up, leaving Rast short again.

End of the Road for Arieh

Level 19 : 15,000/30,000, 30,000 ante
Josh Arieh
Josh Arieh

"It's almost a million guys," Josh Arieh joked when he jammed for the last 80,000 from an early position. He was called by Aaron Mermelstein and Joni Jouhkimainen out of the blinds, which led them to the {a-Clubs}{4-Hearts}{2-Clubs} flop. Mermelstein bet 100,000 and that isolated successfully, which Arieh took with a smile and the words "yeah, get him out of here."

Josh Arieh: {q-Clubs}{j-Clubs}{j-Spades}{6-Clubs}
Aaron Mermelstein: {a-Diamonds}{k-Hearts}{q-Spades}{3-Hearts}

The {4-Diamonds} turn and {10-Diamonds} river were blanks and that spelled the end for Arieh. As he walked away from the table, Jouhkimainen asked "hey, can I have the ball back?" Jouhkimainen had used a golf ball as lucky charm and Arieh tossed it back from a few meters away before heading out of the Paris Ballroom.

Mercier Chips Up Without Showdown

Level 19 : 15,000/30,000, 30,000 ante

On the tail end of a pot between Jason Mercier in the big blind and Robert Cowen from under the gun, the board showed {a-Diamonds}{9-Spades}{7-Spades}{4-Hearts}{2-Spades}. Mercier checked and Cowen bet 180,000 to send his table neighbour into the tank. After using one time bank extension, Mercier check-raised the pot and Cowen instantly folded.
