Level 15 : Blinds 0/0, 5,000 ante
David Prociak

The action was non-stop in Event #83: $1,500 Short Deck No-Limit Hold'em at the 2023 World Series of Poker at Horseshoe and Paris Las Vegas. The bust-outs came fast and furious throughout the first day, with the field being whittled down from 363 players down to only nine in the first 15 levels.

David Prociak came out on top with the chip lead by the end of the night, bagging an impressive 2,040,000 chips. Prociak is one of two former bracelet winners to find a bag for Day 2, having won his first bracelet in a $1,500 Seven Card Stud Hi-Lo 8 or Better event in 2016. Prociak came into the final three tables with the chip lead and kept the lead throughout the later stages of the day.

Hot on Prociak's heels is Robert James, who managed to bag 1,622,000 chips by the end of the night. James eliminated several players throughout the day and will be looking to win his first career gold bracelet on Day 2 of this event.

Ryan Laplante is the only other former bracelet winner to advance to Day 2, having won his first bracelet in a $565 Pot-Limit Omaha event in 2016.

The event paid 55 places of the 363-person field and notables to hit the rail before the money was reached today included Shaun Deeb, Yuri Dzivielevski, Benny Glaser, and Chris Brewer.

Peter Jetten was the unfortunate soul who burst the money bubble when his opponent flopped a full house against his ace-king in a confrontation that was all in preflop.

Notables to secure a cash but who failed to bag a stack for Day 2 included Martin Zamani ($2,413), Nick Marchington ($2,640), Alex Epstein ($2,640), Patrick Leonard ($3,017), Adam Friedman ($4,228), and Dario Sammartino ($6,606).

Day 2 resumes at 12:00 p.m. local time on July 13 with a 6,000 ante and 60-minute levels. With only nine players remaining, it is likely they will play down to a winner, but that remains to be determined.

The PokerNews live reporting team will be back on the tournament floor to bring you all of the live updates throughout the day.
