Picking up the action on the turn, David Peters in early position was involved in a hand with Dimitar Danchev on the button.

With the board reading 87K2 Peters bet out 30,000. Danchev called to send action to the river.

The 9 river completed the board. Peters did not slow down, instead pushing 75,000 across the felt. Danchev responded by raising to 250,000, leaving himself just 13,000 behind. It did not take long for Peters to call, but he mucked after Danchev flipped over A2 to send a huge pot the Bulgarian pro's way while leaving Peters short.

Bill Klein raised to 6,000 from under the gun and Daniel Negreanu three-bet to 15,000 on the button. The blinds folded but Klein called.

A flop of 1088 saw Klein check-call a bet of 10,000 from Negreanu.

The turn brought a 3 and again Klein went into check-call mode after Negreanu fired 28,000.

A third check-call wasn't on the agenda as Klein check-folded the A river when Negreanu bet 75,000.

The Most Expensive Event of the 2024 WSOP So Far Kicks Off Today

Leon Sturm

Welcome back to PokerNews, the official media partner of the 2024 World Series of Poker and home of live updates from all bracelet events.

Today, we have one of the series's priciest events kicking off. Event #39: $50,000 High Roller No-Limit Hold'em (8-Handed) is starting soon here at Horseshoe and Paris, Las Vegas. Shuffle up and deal for this three-day event is at 12 p.m. Vegas time.

Starting stacks are 300,000 and players get up to one reentry until late registration ends after Level 10 (early on Day 2). Day 1 will last for eight blind levels of 60 minutes each. Players will get a 15-minute break every two levels, with no dinner break scheduled for Day 1. Day 2 will then see remaining players return at 12 p.m. on June 15.

With such a prestigious event, the hope is that this year's edition can beat the field of 124 entries and a prize pool of $5,921,000 from last year. The winner of that event was the German poker pro Leon Sturm who beat Bill Klein heads up to claim his first bracelet and the $1,546,024 top prize.

“It does feel amazing," Sturm told PokerNews in a winner's interview. "The bracelet is something special; it means more than just a trophy, I guess. Before, I was thinking that trophies and bracelets don’t mean much to me. But I think a bracelet is special, so that’s pretty cool. The competition was really tough, so that makes it better.”
