Day 1 of Event #39: $50,000 High Roller No-Limit Hold'em (8-Handed) has come to end after eight 60-minute levels with 68 players managing to survive the day from the 134 entries. The tournament boasts one of the biggest buy-ins of the series and took place at the Horseshoe and Paris Las Vegas.

Japan's Masashi Oya sits alone at the top of the leaderboard after he accumulated 1,570,000 chips throughout the day and one was of only five players to break the million-chip milestone. Japan's number one ranked tournament player already has a World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelet to his name after the he took down the Ultra High Roller event at Atlantis Paradise Island last year for a cool $2,940,000 and will be looking to navigate his way through the field on Day 2 to set up a run at bracelet number two.

Another player that tops their country's all-time money list is James Chen, who bagged up big with a stack of 1,120,000 chips. The Taiwanese player emerged victorious in the Super High Roller event at the WSOP Europe back in 2019, so is no stranger to large buy-in events and will be looking to use his vast experience to make another deep run.

The top ten stacks feature players from eight different countries, demonstrating the WSOP's wide international appeal. This diverse mix of competitors highlights how the WSOP attracts top talent from all over the world, making it a truly global event.

With the huge price tag attached to the tournament, it was no surprise to see some of the world's best players clashing with each other on the felt. Phil Ivey, who just won his eleventh bracelet, managed to bag up a prosperous amount of 888,000 chips which puts him in a good position to make a deep run.

Adrian Mateos raised 16,000 in the hijack and he received calls from Nacho Barbero in the cutoff, Philip Sternheimer on the button as well as Carlos Chadha in the big blind.

All four players checked to the 8437 turn where once checked to again, Barbero fired 27,000. Blom called and Chadha used a time card before check-raising to 81,000. Only Barbero made the call.

The 3 paired the board on the river and Chadha went into the tank once again. After using another time card, he tapped the table and Barbero checked back.

Chadha rolled A9 for a busted flush draw before Barbero tabled Q10, turning the queen-high flush.

Sergio Aido opened 16,000 in the hijack and Justin Bonomo in the small blind and Alex Foxen in the big blind both made the call.

The 7 fell on the turn, and Bonomo check-called another bet of 70,000 from Aido.

The board completed with the 9 on the river and Bonomo checked for a final time. Aido went into the tank, using a time chip before tapping the table.

Meeks Sending Everybody Home

Level 6 : Blinds 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante
Curtis Meeks
Curtis Meeks

Curtis Meeks is on a bit of a roll as of late and eliminated Jason Koon from the event.

A few moments later Meeks was stacking more chips after his K5 cracked the AA of his opponent when he rivered two pair on a board of 4K795. Meeks' stack is well over 1,000,000 chips now and he seems to be the only player above that mark.

"I'm sending 'em all home today," shouted Meeks as he stacked his chips.

Mateos' Pocket Nines Can't Crack Lin's Cowboys

Level 6 : Blinds 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante
Adrian Mateos
Adrian Mateos

Adrian Mateos raised from under the gun to 12,000 and Ren Lin three-bet to 55,000 from the big blind. Mateos called.

Both saw the 266 flop which drew a bet of 29,000 from Lin. Mateos shoved, and Lin called off his remaining 70,000 chips.

Ren Lin: KK All in
Adrian Mateos: 99

Lin faded the two outs of Mateos as the runout of J8 kept his pocket kings in the lead which earned him a double-up.

"You played this one really good," remarked Nacho Barbero to Lin.

Chadha "Gambles Too Much" as Lin Doubles

Level 5 : Blinds 2,500/5,000, 5,000 ante
Ren Lin
Ren Lin

Carlos Chadha opened 11,000 under the gun and Ren Lin jammed 102,500 from a few spots to his left as he asked politely, "Please don't snap-call."

The action folded back around to Chadha and he did indeed snap-call as both players tossed their hands face-up.

"Ah, snap-call and double me up. Okay." Lin said excitedly, and looked over at his neighbor, "High-five."

Ren Lin: J10All in
Carlos Chadha: AK

Lin was behind but only momentarily as the J93 flop hit felt, giving him a pair of jacks. The 9 turn and 9 river improved him to a full house as he collected his double.

"You gamble too much," Lin joked as he raked in the pot, "Call me with just ace-high."
