Forrest Blackwelder, the overall chip leader after the first day of play, has yet to arrive for Day 2.
Blackwelder, who has never cashed in a WSOP event before this one, missed the entire Level 18, and has had some 200,000 chips blinded off his stack in his absence.
Jesse Sylvia didn't want to make an all-in bet, so he held on to a single 1,000 chip. Mauro Francolini showed his hand because he thought it was an all-in situation, so Sylvia decided to toss in his last chip.
Jesse Sylvia: A♥J♣
Mauro Francolini: A♦3♣
When the cards rolled out 2♣3♠A♣7♥10♥, the dominated hand got the better of it and Sylvia was out of the tournament.
Mikhail Zavoloka raised to 25,000 in the cutoff and was three-bet by Eshaan Bhalla on the button to 80,000. Pierre-Alexandre Lessard then cold four-bet shoved for about 300,000 in the small blind. Zavoloka folded and Bhalla made the call.
With around 80,000 already in the pot and the board reading 9♥9♣7♠10♠, Shenmolesky, in the big blind, led out with a bet of 30,000. Firestone on the button didn’t take long to call and the two went to the river.
The 6♦ completed the board, and Shenmolesky kept up the pressure with a sizable bet of 100,000. Firestone took a brief pause before coming over the top with a raise to 350,000. The pressure was too much, Shenmolesky quickly let it go.
Pablo Ching raised in the cutoff to 25,000, Johnny Bromberg three-bet to 125,000 from the big blind, Ching called.
Action went check-check when the flop came A♠2♣2♥, Bromberg bet 60,000 when the 8♥ hit the turn, Ching called.
Bromberg decided to bet 150,000 when the 2♦ fell on the river. Ching when deep into the tank before he eventually called and Bromberg tabled A♦4♥ for the full house and he scooped the pot.
With more than 100,000 already in the middle and four players seeing a flop of 3♥9♠2♥, action checked around to Pablo Mariz on the button. He fired for 36,000, but Joel Vazquez in the big blind came in with a raise to 120,000.
That’s when Shundan Xiao moved all in, forcing quick folds from both Guilherme Pessoa and Mariz. Vazquez asked for a count, and once the dealer confirmed 336,000 total, he made the call to take it to showdown.
Shundan Xiao: K♣K♠
Joel Vazquez: 10♥5♥
Xiao was ahead with an overpair, but Vazquez had plenty of outs with a flush draw and some backdoor straight possibilities. The 6♣ on the turn added to the drama but didn’t change much.
When the river brought the J♠, Xiao’s kings held strong, and she let out a sigh of relief as she raked in a massive double-up.
