Frederik Thiemer raised to 1,000,000 from under the gun and Wai Kit Lo three-bet to 2,200,000 on the button for the German to call.
Thiemer checked the K♥Q♣9♠ flop and Lo bet 1,500,000 after some consideration. That led to the check-shove by Thiemer for 6,775,000 and Lo instantly called before asking right away "do you have a set?"
Frederik Thiemer: K♦J♦
Wai Kit Lo: K♣Q♥
Thiemer only had top pair and a gutshot, and Lo needed to fade pocket tens or running jacks. The 6♠ turn and 8♠ river changed nothing and that sent Thiemer to the rail in 34th place.
Rafael Port opened the action from early position with a raise to 1,600,000. It folded around to Luther Tran in the big blind, who responded by moving all in. Port didn't hesitate and snap-called.
Luther Tran: A♥Q♦
Rafael Port: K♠K♣
Tran needed to connect, but the board came 9♥6♥J♦7♣J♥, offering no help.
After a full count, Tran was found to be 275,000 short of Port's stack, sealing his elimination. Port, meanwhile, raked in a massive pot.
After Darrin Oremba doubled through the same player a few hands before, he found himself in an all-in situation with Quentin Girardet again, this time with Girardet at risk.
Quentin Girardet: J♠J♦
Darrin Oremba: A♦K♦
The flop came down safe for Girardet with 3♦7♠2♠. But Oremba hit the K♠ on the turn, giving him a better pair. The 3♣ river sealed the deal for Oremba, and after losing two big hands, Girardet was eliminated while Oremba secured a spot in the top chip counts in the current state of the tournament.
Jihoon Kim kicked things off with an under-the-gun raise to 210,000. Sitting right next to him, Nikolai Mamut moved all in for 1,320,000. Action folded to Honcheong Lee, who reshoved for around 1,230,000, putting the decision back on Kim.
Faced with two all-ins ahead, Kim hesitated and tried to lighten the moment by asking the table, "If I open-fold, can you teach me a bit?" The table responded with a round of head shakes, drawing a laugh from Kim as he added, "No free lesson?"
In the end, Kim laid it down, showing 6♠6♦. That left Mamut and Lee to battle it out.
Honcheong Lee: A♦Q♦
Nikolai Mamut: J♠J♦
Lee was looking to improve, but the board came J♣4♣5♦4♥J♥, giving Mamut a full house on the turn and quads on the river. He scored a massive double and stayed alive, while Lee’s run came to a sudden end.
