On the second draw, Lewis drew two and Suzuki took one off. Lewis again check-called a bet.

Lewis reduced his draw to one on the final draw and Suzuki stood pat. Lewis check-called a final bet from Suzuki, who fanned out 8x7x5x4x2x.

Lewis shook his head and tossed his hand into the muck — giving Suzuki the lead for the first time during their heads-up duel.

For two decades, Tom Goldstein was at the top of the legal world. He argued more cases before the United States Supreme Court than almost any private attorney and founded SCOTUSblog, a legal blog that quickly became the go-to source for Supreme Court analysis. He lectured at Stanford University and Harvard University and regularly appeared on national news programs.

But Goldstein had another life. When he wasn’t arguing before Supreme Court justices, Goldstein was flying to Hollywood or Hong Kong and winning or losing millions in ultra-high-stakes poker matches. He played heads-up against California businessmen and foreign gamblers, at one point allegedly winning over $50 million in just a few sessions.

Goldstein’s luck turned in January 2025 when the US Department of Justice a federal grand jury initiated a 22-count indictment accusing the attorney of failing to report millions in poker winnings and diverting law firm funds to pay his personal poker debts.

Suzuki remained pat, bet, and Lewis check-called. Lewis took one final card, and Suzuki kept his once again. They then checked to showdown, where Suzuki's 9x6x4x3x2x won against the jack-nine of Lewis.

Ryutaro Suzuki completed and called a raise from Toby Lewis.

Suzuki called a bet from Lewis on fourth street and then raised a bet from Lewis on fifth, which Lewis called.

Lewis called a bet from Suzuki on sixth and then raised himself after Suzuki bet on seventh — sending Suzuki deep into the tank.

Suzuki bemoaned his decision, but after a couple of minutes he put in calling chips and Lewis showed his hole cards for a straight. Suzuki mucked and Lewis was sent the massive pot.

In a single-raised pot to the first draw, each player took two cards. Big blind Toby Lewis check-called a bet from Ryutaro Suzuki on the button, after which he changed two cards on the second draw. Suzuki only took one, and bet after another check from Lewis.

Lewis called and drew one card, while Suzuki remained pat. After the final draw, Lewis led out. Suzuki instantly mucked his cards as he forfeited the pot.
