Chan Bluffs Way Out of Event

Level 12 : Blinds 1,500/3,000, 3,000 ante
John Racener
John Racener

Daniel Chan moved almost all in from the small blind with a starting stack total of 60,000 chips on the river with the board reading 1053J3 and a pot of some 35,000. He held onto a solo 500 chip.

Oliver Blithell, who was on the button, pondered the call. Eventually, he moved chips forward.

Chan tabled Q9 showing complete air, thanks to a straight draw on the turn that didn't get there.

Bithell had sniffed out the bluff, and made the call with 108, for a pair of tens with just an eight kicker.

Chan would exit the event in the next hand, as he was forced to toss in that 500 chip, a third of the small blind that he owed.

In the knockout hand, Steven Spivack raised to 6,000 in the cutoff. John Racener called from the big blind to fight for the side pot.

The flop hit 628 and both players checked.

The turn brought the Q and a bet of 8,000 from Spivack, which Racener also called.

The 4 landed on the river, putting four diamonds on the board. This prompted Racener to lead out with 23,000. Spivack folded.

Daniel Chan: 92All in
John Racener: A2

Chan had flopped a pair on his chip-and-a-chair quest, but Racener's nut-flush sent him to the rail.
