Table 718, Paul Volpe Opens Three Hands In a Row

Level 17 : 3,000/6,000, 1,500 ante
Paul Volpe
Paul Volpe

After two quick eliminations, the action has settled slightly. Konstantin Maslak was moved to balance the tables, and Darren Elias and Paul Volpe have about 200,000 more chips than the rest of their tablemates.

Volpe just opened three hands in a row:

  • The first hand, Volpe opened to 18,000 and took down the blinds and antes.
  • The second hand, Volpe opened again to 18,000, and Per Hildebrand called from the small blind. Each player drew one and then checked. Hildebrand won the hand with a better queen, {q-}{8-}{7-}{3-}{2-}
  • Volpe opened to 18,000 for the third hand in a row, and Xavier Kyablue and Jon Turner both called from the blinds. All three players drew one, and Kyablie led for 40,000. Turner folded, and Volpe took about 30 seconds before folding, too.

Kyablue Takes from Turner, Sammartino From Watson

Level 17 : 3,000/6,000, 1,500 ante

Xavier Kyablue raised to 18,000 on the button, and Jon Turner three-bet to 65,000 in the small blind, which Kyablue called. Turner stood pat, and Kyablue drew one. Turner continued with a bet of 65,000, and Kyablue eventually called. Turner announced a queen and sent his cards into the muck when Kyablue showed {9-}{8-}{7-}{5-}{2-}.

Over on the other table, Dario Sammartino raised to 18,000, John Monnette called in the small blind, and Mike Watson called in the big blind. Watson was the only player to draw two, while Sammartino and Monnette took one card each. Monnette and Watson checked, and Sammartino bet 47,000.

While Monnette quickly folded, Watson spent more than two minutes without making a decision, and the clock was called on him. Half a minute passed, and with around 28 seconds left, Watson called. Sammartino rolled over {8-}{7-}{4-}{3-}{2-} and won the pot.

Sammartino Builds His Stack

Level 18 : 4,000/8,000, 2,000 ante

From under the gun, Mike Leah made it 20,000 to go, and Konstantin Maslak called from one seat over. Mike Watson also called in the big blind, and the trio drew one card each. There was no betting action, and Watson rolled over {9-}{8-}{5-}{4-}{2-} as the winning hand.

Dario Sammartino raised to 22,000 the next hand and claimed the blinds and antes before making it 22,000 to go again right after. Watson called on the button, and they drew one each. Sammartino checked, and Watson bet 60,000, which the Italian called.

"I have a pair — a big pair," Watson said and showed nines. Sammartino tabled {10-}{8-}{7-}{6-}{4-} and won the pot.

Chen Doubles Through Elias

Level 18 : 4,000/8,000, 2,000 ante

James Chen opened to 22,000 from the cutoff, Darren Elias three-bet to 70,000 from the button, Chen four-bet shoved for 205,000, and Elias tanked for a bit before he called.

Chen stood pat, Elias drew one, and Chen fanned {10-}{8-}{7-}{5-}{4-}.

Elias was drawing dead, showing {10-}{9-}{6-}{2-} to give Chen the pot.

Konstantin Maslak Eliminated in 12th Place ($15,333)

Level 18 : 4,000/8,000, 2,000 ante
Konstantin Maslak
Konstantin Maslak

Soon after his double up, Konstantin Maslak was all in and at risk again. Mike Watson raised to 20,000 on the button and Mike Leah called in the small blind. Maslak three-bet all in for around 235,000 and Watson folded. Leah gave it some consideration and called, then stood pat.

Maslak checked his cards carefully and drew one before the following cards were tabled.

Konstantin Maslak: {8-}{6-}{4-}{2-}
Mike Leah: {10-}{9-}{7-}{6-}{5-}

Maslak didn't squeeze his last card, but instead turned it over within a matter of moments and revealed a {Q-} to join the rail in 12th place. He receives $15,333 for his efforts and all remaining 11 hopefuls are now guaranteed at least $19,187.

After the showdown was over, Dario Sammartino turned over to the other table and joked "guys, what are you doing? We are busting everyone," as the third casualty in the money had been on this very table.
