Monnette Still On Top

Level 20 : 6,000/12,000, 3,000 ante

James Chen raised to 36,000 from the button and John Monnette called in the big blind, then drew two. Chen drew one and checked before folding to a bet worth 73,000 by Chen.

Mike Gorodinsky raised from under the gun to 35,000 and Monnette in the small blind as well as Darren Elias in the big blind called. Elias drew two while both other players drew one only. There was no betting action and Monnette won the pot with a {10-}{8-}{5-}{4-}{2-}.

Monnette lost a small pot to Mike Leah right after but remains the only player above one million.

John Monnette Leads the Remaining Eight Players

After another 10 levels of play in Event #22: $10,000 No-Limit 2-7 Lowball Draw Championship, only eight players remain from the starting field of 92 entries. On top of the chip counts is two-time bracelet winner John Monnette with 1,051,000.

Day 2 began with 30 players and Monnette flew under the radar for the early portion of the day. When play reached the money at 14 players, Monnette had slightly less than his start-of-day count and was 10th in chips. However, a sizable triple up through Mike Watson and Mike Leah catapulted Monnette to the top of the chip counts. He remained there the rest of the day, and padded his lead by eliminating Shaun Deeb in 13th place and Watson in 11th place, en route to his bagging the chip lead and being in pole position to capture his third World Series of Poker bracelet.
