The Champ Is Here

Level 2 : 600/1,200, 100 ante
Jason Mercier
Jason Mercier

The reigning champion and five-time WSOP bracelet winner, Jason Mercier, has just arrived to defend his title.

Although Mercier is having a quiet start to his 2017 WSOP compared to the way he kicked it off in 2016 with three back-to-back final tables, it still won't deter the recently married father-to-be in continuing the grind for another bracelet.

So far at this WSOP, Mercier has captured three WSOP cashes in Event #14: $1,500 H.O.R.S.E. (107th), Event #18: $565 Pot-Limit Omaha (31st), and Event #23: $2,620 The Marathon (143rd).

Exactly a year ago today, Mercier bested a field of 171 to emerge victorious and collect the $422,874 first prize after defeating James Obst heads-up on a stacked final table featuring some of the world's best. Here is how the final table results finished:

McCormick and Bronstein Chop

Level 2 : 600/1,200, 100 ante

Stud Hi-Lo

Noah Bronstein had the bring-in, and Tom McCormick completed. Bronstein called, then bet out on fourth street, with McCormick calling.

Fifth and sixth streets were checked by both players, as each player's board read as follows:

Bronstein: {X-}{X-} / {5-Clubs}{3-Spades}{9-Spades}{2-Diamonds} / {X-}
McCormick: {X-}{X-} / {6-Spades}{4-Spades}{8-Hearts}{A-Diamonds} / {X-}

On seventh, Bronstein bet, and McCormick called.

Bronstein tabled his {8-Spades}{5-Hearts}{4-Spades} for a low and a pair, as McCormick tabled his {10-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}{A-Hearts} for aces up.

Bohlman Chops

Level 2 : 600/1,200, 100 ante

Omaha Hi-Lo

Scott Bohlman raised to 1,200 and was met with five callers from the hijack around to the big blind.

The flop fell {J-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}{3-Spades}, and Bohlman continued for 600, with only one player dropping out, as the {7-Diamonds} landed on the turn.

The blinds checked, and Bohlman bet 1,200. Tom Koral folded, the button called, the small blind folded, and Randy Ohel called in the big blind.

The {4-Spades} river completed the board, and Bohlman bet 1,200, with only the button player calling, as Ohel mucked.

Bohlman tabled {A-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}{2-Spades} for the nut-low and the third-nut straight, but when his opponent tabled {10-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{5-Spades}{3-Hearts} for the nut-straight, the pot was chopped up.

Fabrice Soulier Soulier fired the first two streets and checked down to seventh. His heads-up opponent bet on seventh, and Soulier called.

Soulier: {x-}{x-}/{5-Spades}{8-Spades}{9-Clubs}{5-Clubs}/{x-}
Opponent: {x-}{x-}/{8-Clubs}{4-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}/{x-}

Soulier's opponent tabled {10-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{3-Hearts}, announcing a pair of tens and a three-low. "This is stud high," another player informed him, and Soulier turned over {a-Clubs}{4-Hearts}{9-Diamonds} for two pair and was pushed the pot.
