"He's Playing Great, Too"

Level 3 : 250/500, 50 ante

Shawn Buchanan has been making his rounds through the $3,000 HORSE field and gathering players for a last-longer bet. Jason Mercier and Christopher Vitch are not involved but were jokingly petitioning to get in.

"I got a lot of chips now, Shawn. Can I get in?" asked Vitch.

Buchanan responded with what was likely a no.

"I didn't have a bunch of chips then," Vitch offered an explanation to why he didn't join earlier.

"You can have both of us," Mercier chimed in, sitting with about 7,000.

"Yeah, you can have a big stack and a short stack," Vitch said.

While this discussion was going on, the table was playing a Stud 8-or-Better hand.

Mercier's door card was the {10-Diamonds}. He looked around the table. "All these low cards, I'm gonna raise."

"He's playing great, too!' Vitch called out to Buchanan as another reason they should be added to the bet.

Mercier eventually won the high hand with aces up and split the pot with Bruno Fitoussi, adding a little bit more to his stack.

A Mike Leah Sighting

Level 3 : 250/500, 50 ante

It is a sight seldom seen on Day 1 of any tournament that Mike Leah is playing. He is actually in his seat for the $3,000 HORSE. This event started a 3 p.m., and the only other event that started today was the $1,500 No-Limit SHOOTOUT, so Leah gets to enjoy a Day 1 without having to check updates on his temporarily abandoned stacks via Twitter.

Leah is currently number two on the WSOP Player of the Year rankings.

Ian Johns
Ian Johns

Stud Hi-Lo

A sizeable pot was brewing on fifth street of a three-way pot between Ian Johns, David "ODB" Baker, and an opponent.

Johns led with a bet on each of the rest of the streets, getting calls from both Baker and their opponent.

Johns: {x-}{x-}/{2-Hearts}{2-Spades}{5-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}/{x-}
Baker: {x-}{x-}/{6-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}{5-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}/{x-}
Opponent: {x-}{x-}/{a-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}{q-Spades}{10-Clubs}/{x-}

Johns tabled {6-Spades}{2-Clubs}{7-Clubs} for trip deuces and a seven-low and scooped the post after his opponents mucked.

Ron Ware
Ron Ware

Omaha Hi-Lo

A player limped from middle position, and Naoya Kihara raised on the button. Ron Ware reraised from the big bind, and both his opponents called.

The flop came {a-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{q-Spades}, and Ware bet. The preflop limper called, and Kihara raised. Ware and the other player called. The turn was the {7-Spades}, and the action checked to Kihara on the button. He bet, and Ware raised. Kihara was the lone caller. The river was the {j-Hearts}, and both Ware and Kihara checked.

Ware showed {4-Diamonds}{a-Hearts}{a-Spades}{9-Spades} for a set of aces, and Kihara mucked.

Below are some other counts from around the room.
