We caught up with Daniel Negreanu and watched him play a couple pots of hold'em, both of which he took down.
On the first hand, Negreanu opened from the button. Eric Buchman raised from the big blind and Negreanu called.
The flop was and Buchman bet. Negreanu called.
On the turn, Buchman bet again and Negreanu thought a second before calling. The river was the and both players checked.
"I just have a pair," Buchman said, turning up . Negreanu had him beat with the and he took down the pot.
Before Negreanu could even finish stacking his chips he was involved in another pot. He opened from the cutoff and was called by Bradley Snider in the big blind. The flop came and Snider checked to Negreanu who bet. Snider called.
Both players checked on the turn and the river. Snider showed for a rivered pair but it was no good against Negreanu's for a better pair.
Welcome back to Day 2 of Event #44: $3,000 H.O.R.S.E. Yesterday the field was cut from 399 runners down to just 154, but plenty of big names are still alive in the field. Both men are in the top five of the World Series of Poker Player of the Year race, with Negreanu sitting in fifth and Obst holding the top spot for now.
They will join Andre Akkari who bagged up the chip lead last night with 110,100. Also returning are Phil Hellmuth (36,100), Jason Mercier (76,400), Natasha Mercier, (21,000), Ben Yu (44,900), Jeff Madsen (85,000) and Scotty Nguyen (84,300), to name a few.
Action is set to kick off at 2 p.m. PDT with a plan to play 10 levels to complete the day. Of the returning field, 60 players will make the money with a min-cash being worth $4,523 and a final table appearance being worth at least $21,007. The eventual champion of the event will lock up $256,226, 167.1 Player of the Year points, and of course, a World Series of Poker gold bracelet.
