Will Berry Leads After $1,500 No-Limit Hold'em Bounty Day 1

Level 10 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

A total of 1,927 players came together to create a prize pool of over $1.5 million in Event #50: $1,500 No-Limit Hold’em Bounty, and by the end of Day 1 only 264 players remain.

Such was the intensity of the action on Day 1, that play was in the money just 10 minutes before the end of the day, with several players securing a $1,414 payday in addition to any bounties that they may have collected over the course of ten levels.

At the end of it, Will Berry led the way with 219,700 in chips. Two-time bracelet winner Brandon Cantu is close behind with 216,500. Cantu won his bracelets in 2006 ($1,500 No-Limit Hold’em) and 2009 ($1,500 Pot-Limit Omaha Hi/Lo), and boasts over $4 million in lifetime earnings.

Other big stacks include Harrison Gimbel (188,800) and Chun Yo Hung (189,600).

A number of notables are still in the field including Joseph Cheong (138,700), Govert Metaal (126,400), Sam Grafton (55,000), Chris Bjorin (34,600), Maria Ho (33,000), Mike Leah (32,700), Tom Hall (24,200), Dzmitry Urbanovich (20,700) and Pierre Neuville (8,700).

The day started with a bunch of competitors including defending champion Kristen Bicknell. Sadly she busted shortly before the money at the hands of Uri Reichenstein when her ace-king failed to crack Reichenstein’s pocket sevens.

Other players who failed to make it through to the money include Rocco Palumbo, Griffin Benger, Chris Moorman, Chris Ferguson, Barry Greenstein, Niall Farrell, Mike Watson, Maria Lampropulos, Jeff Gross, 888Poker Ambassador Parker Talbot, Martin Kabrhel and Kenny Hallaert.

The remaining players will return Tuesday at noon with play well into the money. Every one of them will be looking to put themselves in as good a position as possible, and be in with a chance of a shot at the $266,646 first prize.

Michael Lech Gets Niall Farrell's Bounty

From under the gun Michael Lech opened to 350. The player in middle position called, as did the player in the cutoff and Niall Farrell in the big blind.

A flop reading was dealt and Farrell checked. Lech bet 800. The player in middle position folded. The cutoff folded as well. Farrell stuck around with a call.

The turn came the . Farrell checked. Lech bet 1,700, and Farrell called.

The river filled up the board and Farrell checked again. Lech bet 6,000, enough to put Farrell all in. Farrell went deep into the tank before making the call.

Lech showed and it was best, giving him Farrell's bounty.

Welcome back for another "bounty" event at the 2017 World Series of Poker as Event #50: $1,500 Bounty No-Limit Hold’em gets underway today.

The reigning champion in this event is Kristen Bicknell from Canada. Last year she took home her second WSOP gold bracelet and collected $290,768 for topping a field of 2,158 players. Bicknell has two WSOP gold bracelets, 10 WSOP cashes and $604,236 in WSOP earnings. She already has five cashes this summer and one final table, getting sixth in the $10,000 No-Limit Hold’em 6-Handed Championship.

This is a three-day event. Day 1 will begin at 11 a.m. with play scheduled to last 10 levels. The $1,500 buy-in will get players 7,500 chips to try to run up. Players will receive $500 from the prize pool for every player they eliminate. Bounties cannot be redeemed until 7:30 p.m. on Day 1. There will be a 20-minute break every two levels and a 90-minute dinner break after Level 6. Late registration is expected to close after 6 levels, around 7:10 p.m.
