Only 155 Remain on the Final Day of the $1,150 Monster Stack at the World Series of Poker International Circuit The Star Sydney

The field of 469 was whittled down to just 155 on Day 1 of the $1,150 Monster Stack here at the World Series of Poker International Circuit The Star Sydney. One of the leaders after the first day of play was Nick Varnavelius who bagged 370,500 chips. The former sales manager of the Australasian division of Bluff Magazine sits just near the top but trails the overall chip leader Rahim Hosseini who bagged 467,000.

Several other notables are also returning for Day 2 include the likes of previous WSOPC ring winners such as Brendon Rubie, John Conomos, and Jarryd Godena. Rubie won his ring last year at this international stop while Godena won a turbo event earlier in this series and is looking for circuit points in the race for Casino Champion which is still in his grasp should he make a strong performance in this event. Same goes for Conomos who won a PLO event earlier in the series as well. Others who made it into Day 2 include Hannah Lee, Errolyn Strang, Daniel Laidlaw, and Sam Khoueis.

Action is set to resume at 12:30 p.m. local time and blinds will resume at level 17 with a 2,500 small blind, 5,000 big blind and an ante of 500. The plan is to play right down to a winner so we could be in for a long one but with an average stack size just over 30 big blinds, players are starting to get a little shallow. Only 54 of the remaining 155 will make it into the money so there's still a way to go until the bubble but everyone who cashes is guaranteed at least $1,846. The eventual winner of the event will take home $103,359 and a World Series of Poker Circuit ring.

PokerNews will be following along with this event providing coverage until the end so make sure to stay tuned.

Level 19 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante
John Lombardo
John Lombardo

According to some of the staff, there was a raise before John Lombardo accidentally put in too many chips to call the raise, but not quite enough to raise himself. He was forced to put in a min-raise to 94,000. Rafe Aman was next to act and he moved all in with a covering stack. Action folded back around to Lombardo who called, putting himself at risk to 332,000.

John Lombardo: {5-Spades}{5-Clubs}
Rafe Aman: {7-Clubs}{6-Clubs}

Aman had two overs to Lombardo's small pair but the board ran out {K-Spades}{Q-Diamonds}{Q-Spades}{J-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}. Aman picked up extra outs with the board pair on the flop and his better kicker, but the turn and river both bricked out and he was forced to send over most of his stack to Lombardo.
