Ross Grammer Bags Biggest Stack on Day 1c of the WSOPC Sydney Main Event

Level 14 : 2,000/4,000, 4,000 ante
Ross Grammer Finishes Day 1c as the Chip Leader
Ross Grammer Finishes Day 1c as the Chip Leader

On a packed day in the poker room at The Star in Sydney a total of 279 entries showed up for Day 1c of the WSOPC Sydney Main Event. Just 47 of them found a bag by the end of fourteen levels. Chip leader at the end of the night was Ross Grammer who bagged an impressive 563,000 to finish as the only player above half a million in chips.

Grammer won a large pot in the last level of the night, eliminating George Mitri in the process, to take the chip lead which he wouldn’t relinquish. That hand saw the board read {10-Clubs}{k-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{q-Hearts}{k-Spades}. Mitri had moved all in with {a-Clubs}{4-Clubs} for the nut flush but Grammer improved to a full house holding {10-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}.

Trailing Grammer is Greg Russell (452,000) and Sam Ioannou (387,000) who round out the top three, and are the only players advancing with more than 300,000 in their stack.

Some other notable stacks moving on from this flight include; Marc Camphausen (292,500), Tom Rafferty (263,000), 2009 Aussie Million Main Event champion Stewart Scott (253,000), Vincent Wan (220,000), Trevor Saunders (213,500), Rehman Kassam (212,000), Michel Bouskila (212,000), Nauv Kashyap (206,500), Travis Endersby (173,000), James Broom (170,000), Julien Sitbon (138,000) and Tino Lechich (107,000).

There were several notables that were in this flight but did not manage to find a bag including; 2019 WSOP Player of the Year Robert Campbell, 2017 Aussie Million Main Event champion Shurane Vijayaram, Tristan Bain, Zack Lowrie, Jason Pritchard, defending WSOPC Sydney Main Event champion Alex Lynskey, Ricky Kroesen, Craig Blight, Tam Truong, Daniel Laidlaw, Michael Kanaan, Corey Kempson, Luke Edwards, Danny Huynh, Jarred Graham and Gary Benson.

The tournament has now completed it's third of four flights and players will have one last chance to run up a stack for Day 2 on Saturday, December 7th. The last Day 1 flight will commence tomorrow, Friday 6th, at 12:30pm local time.

The PokerNews team will be bringing full coverage of the last flight as well as the remainder of the main event so stay tuned.

Julien Sitbon
Julien Sitbon

Julien Sitbon may have bubbled the money in the $20,000 High Roller earlier today, but he hasn't let that affect him too much, as he's been able to spin up his starting stack to around 275,000.

Taking a quick look around, that appears to be leading the Day 1c field, with 134 players remaining and just over five levels of play to go.

The turn brought the {a-Spades} and the big blind checked. Kroesen bet 6,700. The button called. The big blind folded.

The {5-Hearts} completed the board and the big blind jammed which had Kroesen's remaining 12,000 covered. Kroesen tanked for three minutes then called.

Kroesen tabled {2-Spades}{2-Hearts} for two pair, and took down the pot, after his opponent mucked his hand but not before letting Kroesen know how bad he played.

Stewart Scott

The board showed {6-Spades}{7-Hearts}{4-Spades}{a-Hearts} and Stewart Scott had bet enough to put his opponent all in.

His opponent did call with 19,700 behind and was behind with {6-Hearts}{3-Hearts} against {8-Spades}{8-Diamonds}.

The {6-Clubs} spiked on the river to give Scott's opponent the winning hand with trip sixes.

It's not all bad news for the 2009 Aussie Millions champion, who still sits behind a double starting stack.
