Ross Grammer Finishes Day 1c as the Chip Leader

On a packed day in the poker room at The Star in Sydney a total of 279 entries showed up for Day 1c of the WSOPC Sydney Main Event. Just 47 of them found a bag by the end of fourteen levels. Chip leader at the end of the night was Ross Grammer who bagged an impressive 563,000 to finish as the only player above half a million in chips.

Grammer won a large pot in the last level of the night, eliminating George Mitri in the process, to take the chip lead which he wouldn’t relinquish. That hand saw the board read {10-Clubs}{k-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{q-Hearts}{k-Spades}. Mitri had moved all in with {a-Clubs}{4-Clubs} for the nut flush but Grammer improved to a full house holding {10-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}.

Trailing Grammer is Greg Russell (452,000) and Sam Ioannou (387,000) who round out the top three, and are the only players advancing with more than 300,000 in their stack.

Some other notable stacks moving on from this flight include; Marc Camphausen (292,500), Tom Rafferty (263,000), 2009 Aussie Million Main Event champion Stewart Scott (253,000), Vincent Wan (220,000), Trevor Saunders (213,500), Rehman Kassam (212,000), Michel Bouskila (212,000), Nauv Kashyap (206,500), Travis Endersby (173,000), James Broom (170,000), Julien Sitbon (138,000) and Tino Lechich (107,000).

There were several notables that were in this flight but did not manage to find a bag including; 2019 WSOP Player of the Year Robert Campbell, 2017 Aussie Million Main Event champion Shurane Vijayaram, Tristan Bain, Zack Lowrie, Jason Pritchard, defending WSOPC Sydney Main Event champion Alex Lynskey, Ricky Kroesen, Craig Blight, Tam Truong, Daniel Laidlaw, Michael Kanaan, Corey Kempson, Luke Edwards, Danny Huynh, Jarred Graham and Gary Benson.

The tournament has now completed it's third of four flights and players will have one last chance to run up a stack for Day 2 on Saturday, December 7th. The last Day 1 flight will commence tomorrow, Friday 6th, at 12:30pm local time.

The PokerNews team will be bringing full coverage of the last flight as well as the remainder of the main event so stay tuned.

Grammer Eliminates Mitri to take the Chip Lead

Level 14 : 2,000/4,000, 4,000 ante

The board showed {10-Clubs}{k-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{q-Hearts}{k-Spades} and a large pot had brewed in the middle of the table.

All the money then went in between Grammer and Mitri with the latter at risk.

Grammer tabled {10-Hearts}{10-Diamonds} for a full house. Mitri stood up from his seat in shock, tabling his {a-Clubs}{4-Clubs} for a flush, before exiting the tournament floor.

Camphausen Threatens for the Lead

Level 14 : 2,000/4,000, 4,000 ante

Marc Camphausen raised to 10,000 from the cutoff and was called by Vincent Wan in the big blind.

The flop came {k-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds} and Wan check-called a continuation bet totalling 18,000 from Camphausen.

The {a-Clubs} dropped on the turn and Wan checked again. Camphausen fired 27,000. Wan called.

The {10-Diamonds} completed the board and Wan led out for 55,000. Camphausen agonised over his decision for a minute before finally making the call.

Wan shook his head in disappointment before revealing {k-Clubs}{9-Diamonds} for a pair.

A relieved Camphausen then flipped over {a-Spades}{j-Clubs} for a straight and took down the pot.

Arrilucea Bests Rafferty

Level 14 : 2,000/4,000, 4,000 ante

The flop showed {3-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds} and Luis Arrilucea checked from the small blind. Tom Rafferty bet 5,000 from the big blind. Arrilucea called.

Both players checked the {a-Hearts} on the turn before the {a-Clubs} completed the board.

Arrilucea bet 11,000. Rafferty thought for a minute and called.

Arrilucea then tabled {q-Diamonds}{3-Hearts} for a full house, and took down the pot, much to the surprise of Rafferty who mucked his hand.

Mitri Doubles Opponent

Level 13 : 1,500/3,000, 3,000 ante

The player in the cutoff opened to 6,000. George Mitri called from the small blind as did the player in the big blind.

The flop came {a-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}{9-Clubs} and the blinds checked. The cutoff continued for 11,000. Only Mitri called.

Both players checked the {5-Clubs} on the turn before the {9-Hearts} completed the board.

Mitri bet 18,000. His opponent quickly moved all in for 53,500. Mitri snap-called.

Mitri watched as his opponent tabled {k-Clubs}{q-Clubs} for the nut flush. Mitri open-mucked his {10-Clubs}{8-Clubs} for a lesser flush before watching the pot get pushed to his opponent.
