Yuval Bronshtein Sneaks Into the Lead

Yuval Bronshtein - Chip Leader
Yuval Bronshtein - Chip Leader
Aggressive play by Yuval Bronshtein in the Hold'em level sees his towers of orange 1K chips reach critical height. Therefore they're hard to count; I would place a fairly heavy bet on his having topped 200K, however. Most recently he won two pots back-to-back:

The first saw the betting up to 12K preflop, with the final bet being made by out-of-position Bronshtein, called by button Jennifer Harman. The flop brought {A-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{9-Spades}. Bronshtein bet out 3K, raise to 6K from Harman, insta-reraise from him and he took the pot. He showed her the {3-Clubs} as he raked in the pot.

Then Barny Boatman lost a tough one -- it looked like the board was {A-Hearts}{A-Spades}{Q-Spades}{5-Clubs}{6-Spades} with the six having arrived on the river. I saw this hand from the point where Barny bet 6K on the river, and then called Yuval Bronshtein's raise. A pause ensued while neither player wished to reveal his hand -- it was up to Bronshtein -- and he showed {6-Diamonds}{6-Clubs} and was awarded the pot. A sad-looking head shake from the Hendon Mobster, who flashed the {A-Clubs} as he mucked his hand.

Fade to Gray

Who put glue on my hands?!
Who put glue on my hands?!
Bad news Mortensen-esque stack fans, Vos Construction Ltd is no more.

With {K-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}{4-Hearts} showing in Stud/8, Vos was forced to break down the walls and spend a few of those gray 100 chips to bet 6K against German online pro Thomas "Buzzer" Bihl.

With Buzzer's {A-Hearts}{K-Clubs}{10-Diamonds} being joined by a {J-Hearts}, and Vos receiving the {7-Diamonds}, Buzzer sharply bet out 6K which, again, was called in grays by Vos, his stack now looking no more than a diminished skyline.

The final card was dealt face down, with both players checking, Buzzer announcing "Blind." Vos didn't look too happy, Buzzer left to scoop a nice pot, as well as all those stack-building gray chips, with {A-Clubs}{Q-Clubs}{J-Clubs} for a straight.

Vos is down to 50K.

Jennifer Harman Regains Momentum

Jennifer Harman, stable near the top
Jennifer Harman, stable near the top
Never having drifted too far from the top places in chips, Jennifer Harman has been taking a few nice pots in the most recent Omaha/8 round to keep a comfy 100K+ stack. Prior to moving tables, Mark Vos noticed her winning more than her share of the flop games, especially. "Another one...my hero," he commented as she took another Hold'em hand down.

Now she's overshadowed in chips by perma-raiser Yuval Bronshtein, who's got a bit of chat going on with green-haired Gary Jones. Offering his opinion on a hand, Bronshtein is interrupted by Jones asking, "And just how many bets did you make with a three in your hand?" -- referring to that previous Hold'em pot he'd played with Harman, and implying that any lessons from the young player might need a grain of salt. "Seven," he replied instantly. Well, we can't fault his memory.

Sound Bluff by Dalby

Yum Yum Pedigree Chum
Yum Yum Pedigree Chum
The oldest versus the youngest player clash as Eric Dalby sticks a cheeky bluff on Mark Vos. Dalby was very short-stacked at the time, but as both players saw a {2-Spades}{6-Clubs}{A-Clubs} flop from the blinds, Dalby bet out 3K leaving him with just 2K behind.

Vos, clearly not liking the situation but simultaneously keen to remove Dalby from the the tournament, thought and thought before thinking a little bit more and having a final session of serious thinkage. Eventually he folded, leaving Kirk Morrison to bang the table in frustration and inquire as to how Vos could fold for so little.

At this point, Eric "Lowball" Dalby proudly showed {K-Clubs}{8-Diamonds} and chuckled to himself as Vos proceeded to defend his play.

"I couldn't call," pleaded Vos. "I had jack-ten."

He could be telling the truth, but the old "He was ahead anyhow" quote is all too familiar and leaves the mind boggling as to who actually did hold the best hand. "If I had a pair, don't you think I would have called?" added Vos.

Either way, it's a near, and very crucial double up for Dalby who is now bearing a grin the length of the Vegas Strip and who's as smug as a mongrel that's just won a year's supply of Pedigree Chum.

Dalby Wins a MONSTER Pot

The wily Eric Dalby
The wily Eric Dalby
After showing Mark Vos a stone bluff on the previous hand, Eric Dalby raises to 6000 from the button. Mark Vos and Kirk Morrison are in the small and big blinds, and a raising war ensues that sees the three players taking the flop in a capped betting round.

Flop: {10-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{2-Spades}

Vos and Morrison both check and Dalby moves in for 3000. Vos check-raises to 6000 and Morrison makes the call, forming a 6000 side pot. The turn is the {10-Hearts} and Vos leads out for 6000. Morrison goes into the tank. While Morrison is in the tank, Vos' lady friend delivers two bright red cocktails to the table and Mark gives one to Morrison. Morrison eventually folds and Vos opens {K-Diamonds}{K-Spades}.

Dalby laughs and says "Nice hand, give him the pot," before opening two black tens for quads!

The Big Vossman

Down to the felt, Mark Vos reraises Eric Dalby's 4,000 preflop raise all in during Omaha/8, only to be three-betted to 12K by Kirk Morrison.

Dalby steps out the way, leaving Vos to flush out his opponent's pocket fives and survive for a timely double-up.

Vos = {A-Clubs}{7-Hearts}{Q-Clubs}{9-Clubs}
Morrison = {A-Diamonds}{5-Spades}{5-Clubs}{3-Spades}
Board = {8-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}{J-Clubs}{9-Spades}

Barny Boatman Eliminated in 12th Place by Yuval Bronshtein (£6,562)

Barny Boatman - Popular Mobster
Barny Boatman - Popular Mobster
The cards were only just in the air after the colour-up break, and critically-stacked Barny Boatman had it all in during the Razz holding four spades -- three of them nice and low.

Boatman: {5-Spades}{8-Spades}{2-Spades}{K-Spades}
Bronshtein's hand finished up {2-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{A-Spades}{7-Spades}{6-Diamonds}, while Barny received the {10-Spades} and a pairing {5-Clubs} and was already halfway out from the ropes, congratulated and hand-shook by the other players at his table.
