Hasta la Vista, Juan!

A very aggressive Brian Powell has just eliminated Juan Carlos Mortensen from the Main Event.

Powell had been raising practically every other hand before this one came up. Powell opened the pot with a raise to 850 and when the action got around to Mortensen, he moved all in for a total of 5,500. Powell made the call and found himself racing with {A-Spades} {9-Spades} against Mortensen's {4-Spades} {4-Hearts}.

The board then ran out {9-Clubs} {5-Hearts} {9-Diamonds} {K-Spades} {6-Diamonds} giving Powell trips and cementing Mortensen's exit.

Powell stacked up approximately 23,000 in chips after the hand.

Keys Pushes Shorter Stacks Around

With his newfound decent stack, James Keys wasted no time in putting Thomas Merved into a difficult situation. Keys bet out 1,900 on the {A-Diamonds} {3-Hearts} {K-Spades} flop, only for Merved to minimum-raise, leaving himself less than 7,000 behind.

Keys dwelled for a while, and dwelled some more, during which time I enjoyed a brief conversation with Dave "Devilfish" Ulliott and Neil Channing, concerning the current chip leaders, the ups and downs of the poker blogging/poker playing lifestyle, and the state of Channing's stack (around 15,000 currently). Then Keys reraised to cover Merved.

Merved now dwelled for a similarly long time, although the conversation rather died at this point, and eventually folded. A single railer applauded, briefly. Keys is now up to 24,000.

"Why Do I Get Myself in These Spots?"

A different more happy look from earlier
A different more happy look from earlier
Last year's runner-up, John Tabatabai, made a standard raise from the button and Jo Remme made the call from the small blind.

Both players checked the {A-Diamonds} {2-Spades} {10-Clubs} flop before Remme led out for 1,500 on the {8-Diamonds} turn. Tabatabai made the call so we headed to the {9-Spades} river. Remme then moved all in for 5,500.

Tabatabai dwelled for an age and tried to speak, as he does, to his opponent in an attempt to get a read. He then tilted his head upwards and said, "Why do I get my myself in these situations?"

He ended up making the call but mucked when Remme tabled {9-Hearts} {9-Diamonds} for a rivered set.

Tabatabai's look said it all and he now nurses a 17,600 stack. Remme is on 16,300.

Sitar Swan Song

Jamie "TheChronic420" Rosen raised to 850 and both Juha Helppi and another opponent called. Dustin Sitar, however, reraised from the button, not leaving himself a great deal behind. Rosen re-popped it to cover him, Helppi and his fellow caller got out of their way, and they were on their backs.

Sitar: {A-Hearts} {Q-Hearts}
Rosen: {6-Clubs} {6-Spades}

Then followed the most exciting board possible, in that it came out {A-Diamonds} {Q-Clubs} {6-Hearts} {K-Hearts} {9-Diamonds}.

Thus Sitar is eliminated, and Rosen adds another handful to his already chip-leading stack.

The Kiddie Game is Down the Street

Daniel Colman, a young man who appears to be all of 13 years old (we're trusting his ID was checked when he registered) raised to 700 from UTG, Stephen Chidwick reraised to 2,200, and Colman immediately moved all in. Chidwick called just as quickly, turning up {A-Diamonds} {K-Clubs} to Colman's {K-Spades} {K-Diamonds}.

The flop was {Q-Hearts} {J-Clubs} {5-Hearts}, the kings still holding. The turn was the {2-Clubs}, but Chidwick's gin card, the {10-Spades} fell on the river, making him a Broadway straight.

Without even bothering to push his chips into the middle, Colman stormed out of the card room like a child sent to bed without his dinner.

Joshua Ladines Doubles Though Adam Junglen

Adam Junglen opened for a raise, Joshua Ladines moved all in for his remaining 5,750 and Junglen made the call. It was a race situation, with Ladines holding {9-Hearts} {10-Hearts} and Junglen {5-Diamonds} {5-Spades}.

The board ran out {9-Diamonds} {6-Clubs} {4-Hearts} {4-Clubs} {7-Spades} and Ladines doubled up with nines and fours.

"Nice hand," said the ever-classy Junglen as his opponent raked in the pot.

Only One Bracelet This Week

PLO bracelet winner, Theo Jorgensen, has been nursing a sort stack ever since he made an ill-timed move on Nenad Medic earlier. He's already moved in once before but found no callers. This time he found a caller from his new tablemate, Barry Greenstein, after moving in for 2,775.

Greenstein turned over {A-Hearts} {A-Diamonds} and was in good shape against the {7-Clubs} {7-Hearts} of Jorgensen.

All the way to the river: {J-Diamonds} {Q-Diamonds} {2-Spades} {10-Spades} {9-Spades}.

No two-outer and no two bracelets for the Dane this week.
