20 Remain as Hellmuth Chases Lucky Number 13

Welcome back for Day 2 of Event #4: €3,250 No-Limit Hold'em Shootout at the 2012 World Series of Poker Europe. Yesterday, 141 players came out to action with just 20 of them moving through to the second, and final, round.

Although most of the players ended with the same amount of chips, Phil Hellmuth's table had an extra player, which allowed him to finish on 71,775. That will give Hellmuth a jump start on the competition as he chases his 13th WSOP gold bracelet.

Some of the names that will be joining Hellmuth are Matt Stout, Chance Kornuth, Dan O'Brien, Daniel Negreanu, John Monnette, Faraz Jaka, Mohsin Charania, Oleksii Kovalchuk and Dominik Nitsche. That's quite an amazing field that's left, which should set things up for one outstanding final table.

Due to the small field size, the tournament officials opted to adjust the structure a bit for this event. Instead of being a three-day event, the event will end here today on Day 2. The final 20 players that all won their table on Day 1 to advance will be playing a regular, multi-table-style tournament until a champion is crowned.

Up top is not only the gold bracelet, but €107,614 in cold, hard cash. As it stands right now, all remaining players are in the money and guaranteed €5,428.

Play kicks off at 2:00 PM local time, so be sure to stick right here with PokerNews for the coverage of the event. We'll see you shortly!

Michael Ferrel Eliminated in 19th Place (€5,428)

Michael Ferrell - 19th Place

From early position, Michael Ferrell opened with a raise to 2,300. Oleksii Kovalchuk in middle position, Faraz Jaka in the cutoff seat, Valentin Messina on the button and Mohsin Charania all made the call before the dealer spread out the {K-Clubs}{J-Clubs}{7-Spades} flop.

On the flop, action was checked through to see the {8-Clubs} land on the turn. After Charania checked, Ferrell bet 6,500. Kovalchuk folded, Jaka called, Messina folded, and Charania folded, which left heads-up action to the river.

The {2-Spades} completed the board and Ferrell paused before shoving all in for right around 15,000. Jaka snapped.

Jaka showed the {A-Clubs}{4-Clubs} for the nut flush to beat Ferrell's {Q-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds} and send him home in 19th place. Just two tables of nine remain now.

Here We Go, Romanovskyi Ignites the Hellmuth Fireworks

Action folded to Roman Romanovskyi in the hijack seat and he raised to 2,000. Play then folded two seats over to 12-time World Series of Poker gold bracelet winner Phil Hellmuth on the button and he said, "My man, my man, my man, I feel like I'm supposed to min-raise you," before tossing out 4,000. Play then folded back to Romanovskyi, and he quickly called.

The flop was {K-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}, and Romanovskyi checked to Hellmuth. Hellmuth check-raised to 7,700. "Call!" snapped Hellmuth as soon as Romanovskyi's bet crossed the line. The whole table burst out in laughter when this happened.

The turn was the {2-Clubs}, and Romanovskyi took some time to think. He then fired 9,800, which prompted some more chatter from Hellmuth.

"As Daniel always says, I have a bad feeling about this one," Hellmuth said, hinting at Daniel Negreanu. "I think he has a set of fours, Daniel." Hellmuth then called.

The river completed the board with the {9-Diamonds} and Romanovskyi took his time before betting 16,800 with a tall stack of chips. Immediately, Hellmuth's glasses came off. "How much is it?" he asked. "He has five-six maybe? This is so sick."

Only a couple seconds passed, and then Hellmuth called. When he did, Romanovskyi tabled the {K-Spades}{9-Spades} for a rivered two pair and it was blastoff time as Hellmuth shot up from his chair like a rocket.

"F***ing I got the guy that's going to give away all his chips! Such a horrible player! He's the one that's going to give them all away!" he ranted.

Everyone laughed particularly loud at the comment about Romanovskyi being "the one" as Hellmuth continued his ranting.

"I mean, is this real? I fly all the way here for some monkey to try and give me all his chips? What is this?" continued Hellmuth.

The table was laughing hysterically while Hellmuth kept on with his complaining. He flashed his hand to John Monnette, but it was never revealed. The table asked Monnette to tell, but all Monnette said was that Hellmuth did have Romanovskyi beat until the river.

Hellmuth paced back and forth behind the table for a bit before coming back and sitting down. He went on about how bad Romanovskyi is playing for a bit longer before Romanovskyi tried to ask him a question.

"You don't deserve to ask me a question about poker," responded Hellmuth. The table burst out in laughter again.

The table then began commenting how well Romanovskyi has been runnning and playing, and that if he keeps it up, he'll probably go on to win. Hellmuth objected.

"How can he win? He has to play another 10-handed table and he'll just donk it off there!" he said.

Chance Kornuth Eliminated in 14th Place (€5,428)

Chance Kornuth - 14th Place

Chance Kornuth and John Monnette were all in on the turn with the board reading {10-Spades}{3-Hearts}{2-Clubs}{5-Hearts}. Monnette held the {10-Clubs}{10-Hearts} to Kornuth's {5-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}. With Kornuth drawing dead, the river completed the board with the {A-Spades} and he was eliminated.

After Kornuth went off to the payout desk, Phil Hellmuth had more to say.

"Here we go, now the crazy guys are more effective," he said. "The way you guys see the world is more in sync now," he continued as the whole table laughed.

Then, a few moments passed before the next hand started up and Hellmuth said, "Here they come! Now we let 'em go! Now we take the leash off! I still know exactly what to do, though. Maybe I won't win a pot, maybe i will."

Phil Hellmuth Eliminated in 12th Place (€5,428)

From under the gun, the short-stacked Phil Hellmuth raised to 7,000. He had 8,000 behind, and action folded around the table to his nemesis of the day, Roman Romanovskyi. Romanovskyi reraised to 14,000 after asking Hellmuth how much he had behind. Hellmuth moved his chips all in and said, "You've probably got the best hand this time." Romanovskyi called.

Hellmuth showed the {K-Clubs}{10-Diamonds} and was behind the {A-Spades}{5-Spades} for Romanovskyi. The good thing was, his cards were plenty live.

The board ran out {J-Clubs}{8-Spades}{8-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{2-Spades}, and Hellmuth couldn't find what he needed. He was eliminated in 12th place, earning €5,428.

"I play like a 12-time world champ and I'm out," were the parting words of Hellmuth as he exited the tournament.

Philippe Boucher Eliminated in 11th Place (€5,428)

Philippe Boucher - 11th Place

Philippe Boucher moved all in against Dan O'Brien with the {A-Spades}{10-Clubs}, but O'Brien made the call with the {A-Clubs}{Q-Clubs} to have him dominated.

The flop gave Boucher an opportunity for a chop when the {9-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}{5-Diamonds} fell, but the {Q-Diamonds} on the turn left him drawing dead. The {Q-Hearts} completed the board on the river and officially sent Boucher out the door in 11th place.

The remaining 10 players are now redrawing to one table and the seat draw will be posted shortly.

John Duthie Eliminated in 9th Place (€10,095)

From middle position, John Duthie raised all in for 29,100. In the next seat, Dan O'Brien requested a count, received one, then called. Everyone else folded to leave O'Brien's {A-Diamonds}{K-Clubs} dominating Duthie's {A-Hearts}{5-Clubs}.

The flop was {A-Spades}{Q-Spades}{4-Hearts} with O'Brien's kicker keeping him in front. The turn {2-Spades} gave Duthie some extra outs to a wheel, but the {7-Spades} on the river failed to help him.

Duthie was eliminated in ninth place and took home over €10,000 for his effort. O'Brien moved his stack to over 300,000 in chips with this pot.
