Who Will Come Out on Top in Event #12: €100,000 Diamond High Roller?

Phil Ivey
Phil Ivey

Play wrapped up last night in the eighth level of the day when just eight players remained in Event #12: €100,000 Diamond High Roller. They will all return to King's Resort in Rozvadov, Czech Republic today in search of a World Series of Poker gold bracelet.

Leading the way with a sizeable chip lead is Anatoly Filatov who put a whopping 42,300,000 in his bag. It could have been a lot more as Filatov lost a monster pot to end Day 2 which would have left him with around half of the chips in play. It will be interesting to see how the Russian poker pro bounces back after a good night's sleep.

Sitting in his rearview mirror is high-roller regular Matthias Eibinger with 27,445,000 chips. Eibinger is especially looking for a deep run in this event after being forced to fire five bullets to make it this far. Jean-Noel Thorel is the wild card amongst the other seven pros and he is coming into the day in third place with 26,085,000 chips. Thorel snagged the majority of his chips thanks to a late double up from Filatov where he spiked a four-outer on the river.

Only two of the players left in the field know what it's like to wrap a WSOP bracelet around their hand but they come into the final day as the two shortest stacks. Danny Tang scored his first bracelet earlier this year in Las Vegas while Phil Ivey had the honor of winning 10 in his illustrious poker career. Both players have some work to do if they want to repeat history sitting on 3,900,000 and 2,375,000 respectively.

The cards will go in the air at 2 p.m. local time with 11:27 remaining in level 16 and the blinds at 120,000/240,000 with a 240,000 big blind ante. The levels will continue to be 60 minutes in length and each player will receive a fresh set of six 30-second time banks. With an average stack of around 75 big blinds, it could suggest that the players could be in for a long battle.

Each player has locked up at least €212,504 thus far but they will all have their sights set on the first-place prize of €2,172,104. The pay jumps will start to mean a bit more now and become even more impactful as the field shrinks.

As always, the PokerNews live reporting team will be here to bring you all of the live updates until a winner is crowned. The updates will be on a delay to remain in sync with the PokerGo live stream. Keep it locked here to find out how the action unfolds and who will be crowned a WSOP champion.

Danny Tang
Danny Tang

Matthias Eibinger made it 690,000 to go from under the gun and Danny Tang, who was on the short stack, shoved all in for 3,300,000 in the cutoff. The action folded back to Eibinger who quickly made the call to put Tang at risk.

Matthias Eibinger: {j-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}
Danny Tang: {a-Clubs}{k-Clubs}

It was a coin flip with Tang needing to connect with the board in order to stay alive. The flop came {q-Hearts}{9-Hearts}{3-Hearts} but neither play held a heart in their hand. The {7-Clubs} on the turn was no help to Tang and the {8-Hearts} on the river confirmed his exit from the tournament.

Anatoly Filatov raised it up to 625,000 on the button and Ole Schemion ripped all in for his last 2,620,000 in the small blind. The action was back in Filatov who made an easy call.

Anatoly Filatov: {k-Spades}{k-Diamonds}
Ole Schemion: {a-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}

The flop came {j-Hearts}{q-Clubs}{3-Spades} to leave Filatov in the lead with his pocket kings. The {10-Hearts} on the turn gave Schemion a straight draw but his ace was no longer any good. It was the {a-Hearts} on the river that improved Filatov to a straight and Schemion was eliminated in sixth place.

Lim Doubles Into the Lead

Level 18 : 200,000/400,000, 400,000 ante
Chin Wei Lim
Chin Wei Lim

Chin Wei Lim raised it up to 900,000 from under the gun with {6-Hearts}{6-Diamonds} and Christoph Vogelsang defended from the big blind with {4-Diamonds}{3-Spades}. The flop fell {10-Spades}{6-Spades}{3-Clubs} and Vogelsang checked to Lim who continued for 700,000. Vogelsang check-raised to 2,400,000 and Lim just called.

The turn brought the {4-Clubs} and Vogelsang made two pair but he was already drawing dead to Lim's set of sixes. Vogelsang checked again and Lim reached for a bet of 4,800,000. Vogelsang check-raised all in and Lim instantly called off his stack of 16,110,000.

The insignificant {7-Hearts} completed the board and Lim double up into the chip lead.

Christoph Vogelsang
Christoph Vogelsang

Matthias Eibinger opened to 1,200,000 in the cutoff and Jean-Noel Thorel called from the small blind. Christoph Vogelsang three-bet shoved all in for 10,875,000 in the big blind and Eibinger re-shoved to get Thorel to fold.

Christoph Vogelsang: {j-Hearts}{j-Diamonds}
Matthias Eibinger: {q-Spades}{q-Clubs}

The flop fell {a-Hearts}{q-Hearts}{2-Hearts} to give Eibinger a set of queens but Vogelsang picked up a flush draw. The {5-Clubs} on the turn was a brick but the {7-Hearts} on the river completed Vogelsang's flush to double through Eibinger.

Chin Wei Lim shoved from the small blind and Matthias Eibinger called in the big blind for his last 4,225,000.

Matthias Eibinger: {j-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}
Chin Wei Lim: {q-Spades}{6-Diamonds}

The flop came {a-Clubs}{a-Spades}{k-Hearts} to keep Lim ahead.

The turn was the {q-Hearts} which meant that a ten on the river could save his life but he got up from his chair already. A king would chop the pot but the river completed the board with the {9-Hearts} as Eibinger's tournament life was over and he was sent to the payout desk to collect €457,107 for finishing in fifth place.

Jean-Noel Thorel raised to 1,600,000 on the button and Christoph Vogelsang ripped all in for 12,900,000 in the small blind. Chin Wei Lim asked for a count in the big blind before making the call. Thorel thought for a moment as well but decided to lay his hand down.

Chin Wei Lim: {a-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}
Christoph Vogelsang: {a-Clubs}{3-Spades}

Lim was in a dominating lead against Vogelsang and the flop of {10-Spades}{7-Spades}{6-Clubs} left it that way. The turn was the {2-Diamonds} which left Vogelsang with just two outs. The {q-Hearts} completed the board and Vogelsang was eliminated in fourth place.

Anatoly Filatov
Anatoly Filatov

The action was on Anatoly Filatov in the small blind who ripped all in for 12,500,000. Jean-Noel Thorel asked for a count in the big blind and gave a little laugh as Filatov just relaxed, eating his food. Thorel eventually made the call and Filatov's tournament life was on the line.

Jean-Noel Thorel: {k-Hearts}{10-Hearts}
Anatoly Filatov: {a-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}

The flop came {3-Spades}{2-Hearts}{k-Clubs} to give Filatov a pair of threes but Thorel hit a pair of kings. The {j-Hearts} on the turn was no help to Filatov and the {5-Clubs} on the river sealed the deal. Filatov was ousted in third place and the final two players will take a quick break before heads-up action begins.

Jean-Noel Thorel
Jean-Noel Thorel

Chin Wei Lim raised to 2,400,000 on the button with {8-Spades}{4-Clubs} and Jean-Noel Thorel called with {a-Diamonds}{9-Clubs} in the big blind. The flop fell {8-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}{2-Clubs} and Thorel check-called a bet of 4,000,000 from Lim.

The {3-Clubs} on the turn gave Thorel the larger of the two flush draws and a straight draw. He checked again and Lim dropped in a bet of 6,800,000. Thorel made the call and the {4-Spades} paired the board on the river.

Thorel checked for the third time and Lim announced a bet of 19,000,000. Thorel check-raised all in for around 45,000,000. There was a bit of controversy due to the language barrier but the final ruling was that Thorel was all in. Lim confirmed that Thorel was all in before making the call with a full house.

Just like that, the tournament finished after just four hands of heads-up action. Thorel will still pocket over €1.3 million for his runner-up finish and Lim has earned his first-ever WSOP gold bracelet. A full recap and winner's interview will be posted shortly.
