Tommy-Gunned

Claire Renaut is up to 46,000 after winning a "crazy pot" against Tommy Vedes. She had opened to 1,700 from UTG and he made the call in the big blind.

The flop came {8-Clubs} {6-} {4-Clubs} and Renaut ended up bet/3bet shoving over Vedes check-raise and Vedes made the call with {A-Clubs} {9-Clubs} against Renaut's {7-} {7-}. The former WPT winner somehow contrived to miss all his outs and was crippled down to 4,000 as a result.

Soon after though, he managed to eliminate the only stack shorter than him at the table Michael Conway, when the latter decided to gamble with {7-Diamonds} {4-Spades} against Vedes' {A-Diamonds} {10-Diamonds}. The board came {Q-} {J-} {J-} {9-} {8-} though and Vedes now has an 8,000 stack and at least a little fold equity.

Jarvis Drinks a Double

Matt Jarvis
Matt Jarvis

Perhaps Matthew Jarvis had also noticed that Raphael Beer has been the most active player at the table here in the early going, because Jarvis quickly three-bet all in when Beer opened another pot to 1,800. Allen Kessler debated a decision in the big blind, but he eventually folded to let Beer call the 12,000 required to put the November Niner at risk. With more than 25,000 in the middle, the cards were turned up:

Beer: {A-Clubs} {Q-Spades}
Jarvis: {7-Spades} {8-Diamonds}

"Jeez, I was gonna triple up with pocket tens," Kessler said. But alas, they were already in the muck. There was a seven on the flop for Jarvis, and the board of {4-Spades} {7-Hearts} {6-Clubs} {2-Spades} {3-Clubs} will allow him to stick around for a while longer. "I play so bad," Kessler concluded.

Beer is now on life support with around 10,000 chips left, and that's really a shame considering how awesome his name is.

Chainsaw Pounds Beer

Raphael Beer opened to 1,800 from middle position, before Allen Kessler three-bet all in from the button. Beer asked for a count.

"It's about ten or eleven," Kessler said. Indeed, it was 10,700, and Beer could not make the call. Score one for the Chainsaw.

Guess Who's Back? Eighty's Back

Matthew Jarvis
Matthew Jarvis

After a few installments of Groundhog Day 1 flights, we've finally made it to Day 2 and the combining of the field from the three starting days.

From a field of 582, just 80 have made it this far. After nine levels of play, it's Wesley Pantling who has the big stack as he returns today. Day 1b was awfully kind to Pantling, winning a couple huge pots to fortify his chip tower in the middle stages of the day. "Don't worry, I just won a big flip," Pantling said as he arrived at a new table late in the day. "I'm not really anyone, I've just been running really good."

Whatever the reason for his mighty stack, Pantling's count of 56,200 is the stack to chase so far. Sofia Lovgren was also a chip magnet on Day 1b, and she's right behind Pantling with 52,500 to start the day. Day 1a and 1c chip leaders Jeppe Bigsaard and Leonard Truche are in third and fifth places, respectively.

We've still got four Fill Tilters with us too. Andrew Lichtenberger is up there in the top ten, while Scott Fischman, Maria Demetriou, and November Niner Matthew Jarvis will all have some work to do as the field pushes toward the final table.

We're just about 15 minutes from getting out of the gates here, and the players are beginning to meander toward their seats. This being the WSOP, we'll start right on time, so don't wander off on us. The final table and a shot at some new golden bling waits for nine of these players!
