Farazed Out

Faraz Jaka earlier in the Series
Faraz Jaka earlier in the Series

An interesting hand developed as Bryn Kenny made a minimum raise to 2,000 from under the gun, only to receive three callers in Faraz Jaka (UTG+1), Markus Golser (cut-off), and JC Tran (button).

With so much money in the pot, this seemed like the perfect opportunity for John Eames to raise to 30,000 from the small blind, virtually setting himself all in with just 1,500 behind.

Although Kenny immediately released his hand, the action ground to a halt on Jaka. After sizing up his option, Jaka moved in for little more, triggering folds from Golser and Tran.

"I hope you have {A-}{Q-}," willed Eames as he flipped {A-Diamonds}{K-Hearts} onto the felt. His wish, however, was not granted as Jaka revealed {9-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}.

On this occasion, the coin was buttered Eames' side as the {3-Hearts}{A-Clubs}{2-Hearts} flop brought a bullet to shoot Jaka's pair down. The {10-Spades} turn and {4-Spades} changed nothing, and Eames doubled through.

Down to just 3,800, Jaka was all in on the following hand, and didn't live to tell the tale.

Evdakov 2, Esfandiari 1

Antonio Esfandiari
Antonio Esfandiari

The last time we reported on Nikolay Evdakov and Antonio Esfandiari the former was doubling-up through the latter. Since then it seems as if Esfandiari got some of those chips but the Russian has just doubled-up through him again prompting Esfandiari to say "Nice hand. That's two-one now".

The hand started with an Evdakov raise from UTG and three players called including Esfandiari in the BB. The flop came {q-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}{4-Clubs} and Esfandiari led for 5,100. Evdakov raised to 12,000 and when it was folded back to Esfandiari he set Evdakov all-in for his last 29,000. Call.

Esfandiari: {a-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds} for a nut flush draw.
Evdakov: {j-Clubs}{j-Spades} for middle set.

The {5-Clubs}{10-Hearts} turn and river missed the American, sending the chips Russia's way. Evdakov has 66,000 to Esfandiari's 75,000 chips.

Quinn Doesn't

Nikolay Evdakov - hysterically giggling
Nikolay Evdakov - hysterically giggling

The flop read {8-Hearts}{4-Hearts}{10-Clubs} when we found Nikolay Evdakov betting from the cutoff. Quinn Do in the big blind made the call.

Both players checked the {5-Spades} turn and they saw a {7-Spades} river, at which point Do bet out 4,000 - but Evdakov called it, and found that his {3-Hearts}{5-Clubs} was indeed good to take the pot. After a pretty poor start to the day, Evdakov is now in good shape on around 90,000.

"Three-five, huh?" mused tablemate Antonio Esfandiari, who by all accounts was responsible for most of the improvement to the hysterically giggling Evdakov's stack. "Stealing, stealing. Sometimes you have to steal."

Ivey Barrels, Barrels and Barrels Again

In a pot against Simon Higgins, Phil Ivey led out for 3,600 on the {10-Spades} {9-Spades} {8-Spades} flop. Higgins made the call before calling an additional 11,000 on the {2-Hearts} turn.

The river brought the four-flushing {3-Spades} and Ivey nonchalantly threw out 30,000 resulting in Higgins speedily folding {Q-Spades} {Q-Clubs} face up as Ivey casually added his chips without even batting an eyelid.

He's up to 160,000 now which is also the amount that former WSOPE finalist James Keys has just sat down with, two seats to Ivey's right.

Mighty Quinn Do

Quinn Do
Quinn Do

Quinn Do won't be a name that too many locals are familiar with here at the Empire Casino, but with over $2.1 million in tournament winnings he's certainly somebody we should be taking note of.

35-years of age from Vietnam (now residing in Seattle, Washington), Do's breakout year was 2005 when he won a bracelet in a $2,000 no-limit hold'em WSOP event. A few years later, he picked up his biggest payday, finishing second to none other than Phil Ivey in the 2008 WPT L.A. Poker Classic for a mouth-watering $909,400.

Here in London, he's looking to add a WSOPE bracelet to go with his Vegas counterpart, and grab that non-US victory that has so far evaded him. Despite the presence of Antonio Esfandiari and Daniel Negreanu, Do's table has been quieter than a nun in a library of late, with everyone slipping on their game face and adopting the role of silent assassin.

At time of writing, Do has an impressive 145,000, some of which was sliced out of the stack of neighbour Bruno Fitoussi. With 10-15,000 already in the pot, the two players reached a flop pf {8-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}{7-Hearts} where Do check-called a bet of 5,500. Both players checked the {5-Diamonds} turn, before Do took it down with a bet of 11,000 on the {8-Clubs} river.

The very next hand, Do lapped up the blinds with a raise to 2,200, the small and big blind releasing their hand and allowing Do to take the pot uncontested.

It's clear that Do has come to play, and if his recent activity is anything to go by, his intention is to play an aggressive game.

Six Bets Are Too Many For De Mel

Thorsten Schafer opened to 1,800 from the hijack seat, and he found action from Priyan de Mel. From the small blind, de Mel three-bet to 4,100, but Schafer came right back with another raise to 9,000 straight. De Mel promptly made it 18,000, and Schafer instantly six-bet shoved all in with the covering stack.

De Mel had just around 15,000 left behind, and he soon decided that his best option was to la it down and save that remainder for a spot when he wasn't being six-bet.

Ice Man Melts

Patrik Antonius
Patrik Antonius

Patrik Atonius is out after losing his stack over the course of two hands.

Firstly he limped from UTG the gun and picked up another four limpers before Simon Persson raised to 4,200 from the BB. Only Antonius called to see the {q-Spades}{j-Hearts}{8-Spades} flop where he was set all-in by Persson. He folded leaving himself with just 10,800 chips.

The very next hand the action folded to Patrik Selin on the button who raised and then called when Antonius shoved from the BB. Antonius tabled king-ten but lost out to Selin's pocket aces.

Climbing

Adrian Passfield came back today as our official short stack on just 4,725 - less than eight big blinds - so it with some awe that we declare him Climber Of The Day, as he is now up to 85,000, well above average.

His latest double up came courtesy of Tyler Bonkowski on the button who got himself involved in a raising war which he probably wished he hadn't, as his last raise (we believe it was a six-bet) was to 25,500 and he thus felt committed when Passfield shoved for 42,000 total from the small blind.

Lucky Passfield...

Bonkowski: {q-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}
Passfield: somewhat ahead with {k-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}

Board: {a-}{a-}{3-}{5-}{7-}

Both players were laughing at the end of the hand, but Bonkowski really has little reason to as he's down to less than 20,000 after that.

Greenstein's Spade Uproots Some Chips

Dan Shak opened to 2,100 from UTG+1 and Yann Dion made it 5,900 next to him before Barry Greenstein from UTG+3 pushed all-in for 31,000. Shak then moved all-in and Dion made the call.

Greenstein: {A-Spades} {Q-Spades} and in a world of pain because...
Shak: {A-Clubs} {A-Hearts} and...
Dion: {K-Clubs} {K-Diamonds}

But the board came {9-Spades} {6-Spades} {5-Hearts} {8-Hearts} {4-Spades} making Greenstein the nut-flush to treble up to about 95,000. Shak won a decent side pot putting him on 80,000 while Dion dropped to 38,000.
