D'Angelo Calls Nguyen's Bluff to Burst the Bubble

The Bubble Master
The Bubble Master

Men Nguyen raised to 16,000, and Ryan D'Angelo announced pot. The bet he slid out was 5,000 short of the 57,000 in the pot, and Nguyen tried to argue that he hadn't actually said "pot," but the dealer and the rest of the table heard it, so it stood. Nguyen called.

The flop fell {q-Spades}{j-Diamonds}{9-Spades}, and Men asked the dealer how much was in the middle. The dealer responded that it was 123,000. Nguyen moved all in for less, 107,000 to be exact. "Uh, I'm really not getting good flops." As the rest of the tables finished their hands, the players crowded around the table. G0lfa asked if anyone else had busted, but no one had. The other tables were waiting for him to make the call or not. He had Nguyen slightly covered, but a call wouldn't leave him with enough chips to make it through more than another hand or two. Nguyen, meanwhile, was breathing hard and looked like he might swallow his tongue.

With a curse under his breath, D'Angelo nodded and announced a call. Nguyen didn't want to turn his up, but aware of the Master's love of waiting til the last moment to table the nuts, G0lfa asked the dealer to make him show. Nguyen was embarrassed by the bluff gone wrong, but the dealer took the cards out of his hand and spread them on the felt.

Nguyen: {a-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}
D'Angelo: {a-Spades}{a-Hearts}{9-Hearts}{5-Hearts}

D'Angelo was stunned to see how far ahead he was. The {10-Clubs} turn and {5-Spades} river were anticlimactic. Nguyen didn't say a word. He didn't make eye contact with anyone or tell D'Angelo it was a terrible call. He just picked up his backpack and walked away. And the table instantly erupted in congratulations for G0lfa's call, for his choice of bubble victim, and for making the money. D'Angelo is up to 380,000, and everyone is guaranteed $10,000.
