It started in October of 2007, a vision that has now grown and blossomed into our flagship series – the PokerNews Cup. It is with great pleasure we announce the return of the PokerNews Cup to Australia after a hugely successful launch in October last year and a stint in Europe this year. This coveted series will run again at Australia's largest and most impressive luxury casino and entertainment complex – Crown Casino from October 12 – 20.
"PokerNews and Crown Casino are pleased to announce the return of the most successful PokerNews event ever," explains PokerNews Ltd Vice President, Mr. Justin Huxley. "With a first place guaranteed payout of $250,000, this years event will once again draw the biggest and brightest names in the poker world to Crown's lavishly appointed Poker arena."
The tournament will feature eight events with buy-ins ranging from $175 to the $2,200 Main Event. Last year's Main Event saw an accumulated prize pool of over $1.1 Million giving the champion a generous $300,000 piece of the pie.
As always, PokerNews will be working with some of today's best online poker rooms to give you exclusive freerolls awarding packages that include entry to the Main Event, cash for travel, accommodation at the lavish Crown Promenade Hotel and invites to some of the hottest parties. Additionally, we will be launching a Satellite Series awarding even bigger packages that include access to cruises and excursions. Freeroll and Satellite winners will of course receive full membership to the coveted Team PokerNews.
Our superstar Live Reporting Team will be on the floor of the Crown Poker Room providing the most comprehensive and detailed updates on your progress at this Series. Again, you will be watching and competing with a variety of players from all parts of the world including some of Australia's homegrown pros.
October is one of the best times to visit the city of Melbourne – as Melburnians welcome the fresh spring weather (with summer just around the corner!) the city is abuzz with excitement and offers a comprehensive schedule of local events including the coveted Melbourne International Arts Festival and the Spring Racing Carnival. Crown Casino is strategically placed at the centre of Melbourne's arts and culture hub and is also a stroll's distance to the city. You will definitely be able to take in all this, and more at the 2008 PokerNews Cup Australia. Stay tuned to PokerNews.com for more information in the coming weeks.
