2011 World Poker Tour Borgata Poker Open Day 3: Failla Going for Second WPT Title
The 2011 World Poker Tour Borgata Poker Open continued on Wednesday with the remaining 170 players jumping back on the felt for more action. By day's end, recent WPT champion Will "The Thrill" Failla had set himself up for a great shot at another WPT title by claiming the chip lead with 3.255 million in chips.
The money bubble burst during Level 21. According to the WPT Live Update Team, the board read when David Williams moved all-in against Mark Bramley, who tanked for a couple of minutes and then made the call holding for a Broadway straight. Williams had him pipped with for a full house, however, and the field was officially down to 100 players and in the money.
When the money was reached, plenty of notable players began busting from the tournament. Eric "Sheets" Haber hit the rail in 67th place, David Diaz fell in 65th, Jeff Madsen bounced in 60th, John D'Agostino was eliminated in 59th and Yevgeniy Timoshenko exited in 47th. John Racener (35th), Williams (31st), and Jesse Cohen (28th) were also eliminated.
Cohen, eliminated by Chris Martin, was the last of Day 3. Cohen raised all-in for his last 270,000 with the blinds at 15,000/30,000 with a 3,000 ante. Martin called out of the small blind and held the . Cohen shoved with and was looking for help to stay alive. Nothing he was looking for came on the board and Martin was out the door with a $16,352 payday. The remaining players then began to bag and tag their chips.
Of the remaining players moving on to Day 4, Vanessa Selbst sits with 1.551 million in chips, "Miami" John Cernuto holds 1.642 million, Matt Glantz bagged 1.962 million and Darren Elias finished with 2.547 million. The average stack is just under 1.5 million in chips and bringing up the rear on the short stack will be Jin Hwang with 346,000.
Failla is the only play over three million in chips and holds the pole position in the quest for the $922,441 first-place prize. Entering Day 4, all of the remaining players are guaranteed $18,868.
