The Online Railbird Report: Hansen Gives Back $371,000; “mtvdeuem” Biggest Winner

It was a fairly quiet week at the high-stakes tables on PokerStars. Sure, there were still hundreds of thousands of dollars changing hands, but not the near half-million-dollar swings we’ve become accustomed to as of late.

Last week we told you about a shakeup atop the 2012 PokerStars yearly leaderboard as Ben “Sauce123” Sulsky overtook “EireAbu.” Well, it didn’t last long because Sulsky dropped $97,915 this week and relinquished the lead back to “EireAbu.”

As far as big winners go, “mtvdeuem” was the biggest with $278,071, which came in 5,607 hands spread across 137 sessions. The top four was rounded out by Alex “BiatchPeople” Luneau (+$228,266 in 8 sessions/1,215 hands), “wilhasha” (+$153,084 in 23 sessions/2,537 hands) and “FaKeOrReaL” (+$129,634 in 242 sessions/13,777 hands).

On the other end of the spectrum, Gus “broksi” Hansen followed last week’s big $474,033 win by giving back $371,287 of it in 4,587 hands across 51 session. The next biggest loser ended up being Rob “Vaga_Lion” Akery, who dropped $219,409 in 8,605 hands over 169 sessions.

A Little FLO8 & PLO Action on a Slow Sunday

The first significant $1,000/$2,000 fixed-limit Omaha eight-or-better game of the week took place on Sunday when “madmags4” played 500 hands against the likes of Gus “Broksi” Hansen and “RaiseOnce,” coming out a $62,000 winner. It wasn’t a huge score, but it was enough to make him the day’s biggest winner just ahead of “GVOZDIKA55” (+$58,400) and Benny “toweliestar” Spindler ($53,800).

Even though the FLO8 games made the difference atop the daily leaderboards, the two biggest pots came from a game of $50/$100 pot-limit Omaha. In the largest, action was heads-up when “mtvdeuem” ($53,732) opened for $300 from the button and “1Il|1Il|1il|” ($41,339) three-bet to $900 from the big blind. The action didn’t stop there as “mtvdeuem” four-bet to $2,700, “1Il|1Il|1il|” five-bet to $8,100, “mtvdeuem” six-bet to $24,300, and a call was made, bringing about the 8♦K♣4♠ flop. “1Il|1Il|1il|” led out for his last $17,039 and “mtvdeuem” made the call.

“Mtvdeuem's” aces were out in front, and they held as the 7♣ appeared on the turn followed by the K♠ on the river, sending the $82,676 pot to “mtvdeuem.”

In the second biggest hand, Andreas “Skjervøy” Torbergsen ($28,585.02) joined the game, making it three-handed, and he promptly raised to $200 on the button. “1Il|1Il|1il|” ($28,049.04) made the call, and then both those players called when “mtvdeuem” ($38,196.91) three-bet to $860 from the big blind. Two checks on the 2♣J♥3♦ flop put action on Torbergsen, who fired out $1,900. Both of his opponents called, the 3♣ turned, and “1Il|1Il|1il|” checked to “mtvdeuem,” who bet $5,002.19. Torbergsen made the call, and then “1Il|1Il|1il|” woke up with a check-raise all in for $25,289.04. “Mtvdeuem” opted to get out of the way, but Torbergsen made the call and created a pot worth $63,877.

“1Il|1Il|1il|” got it in with jacks full of threes, which was the second nuts. Unfortunately for him, Torbergsen held the only hand that could beat him — quad threes. The Q♦ river was of no consequence, and Torbergsen was pushed the pot.

Monday Belongs to Augdal

Terje “Terken89” Augdal played two sessions on Monday, one in the morning and one in the evening. The first session lasted just an hour and a half and saw Augdal win $32,000 playing $50/$100 and $100/$200 PLO. His night session was 4.5 hours and added another $90,000 to his bankroll.

In his most notable hand, which also happened to be the biggest of the day, action was six-handed at a $50/$100 table when Gus “broksi” Hansen ($27,085) opened for $200 from the cutoff, Ben “Sauce123” Sulsky ($73,686.22) called on the button, and Augdal ($39,686.19) three-bet to $1,020 from the small blind. After the big blind folded, two calls were made, and the flop came down 5♦5♣8♦. Augdal seized the initiative and bet $1,321, Hansen folded, and Sulsky raised to $4,333. Not to be outdone, Augdal three-bet to $10,900, and then called off his last $27,816.20 after Sulsky four-bet to $40,308.

Sulsky had flopped eights full and was well out in front of Augdal’s trip fives. The 7♣ turn was nothing special, but the A♠ river was because it gave Augdal aces full and the $80,567 pot.

Hitting the river was something Augdal became accustomed to on Monday, as evidenced by another big hand. It happened at another six-handed table and began when Augdal ($22,119) opened for $300 from early position. Three calls followed, and then Hansen ($36,287.19) three-bet to $1,920 from the big blind. Augdal made the call, as did Benny “toweliestar” Spindler ($9,750) from the button, and there was three-way action to the 8♣Q♥7♥ flop. Hansen led out for $6,475, Augdal moved all in for $20,199, Spindler folded, and Hansen called the additional 13,724.

Augdal had flopped two pair along with straight and flush draws, which he needed to hit to overcome Hansen's flopped set. The K♠ turn was a blank, but the 9♠ river was not as it completed the aforementioned straight draw and gave Augdal the $46,833 pot.

Who is “FaKeOrReaL”?

Little is known about the mysterious PokerStars player “FaKeOrReaL” other than the fact that he first appeared at the high-stakes tables in July. On Wednesday, “FaKeOrReaL” made his presence known at the $50/$100 PLO tables by putting in nearly 8,000 hands in 13 hours and banking an impressive $216,800. He did so not by winning any big pots, but by raking in numerous medium-sized pots.

In another hand between “FaKeOrReaL” ($18,990) and Joeri “L0ve2playU” Van Der Sman ($25,210), the latter opened for $250 from the small blind only to have the former three-bet to $750 from the big blind. Van Der Sman responded by making it $2,250 to go, “FaKeOrReaL” called, and the flop fell 9♥3♦5♥. “FaKeOrReaL” ended up check-raising all in for $16,740 after Van Der Sman bet $4,498, and the Dutchman made the call.

Van Der Sman was ahead with his kings, but the 10♠ turn gave “FaKeOrReaL” a set and the lead. The J♥ river actually improved “FaKeOrReaL” to a flush, which was good enough to win the $37,978 pot.

Rob “Vaga_Lion” Akery was the polar opposite of “FaKeOrReaL” and lost $140,500 on the day. While Akery was at the table for the biggest hand of the day, he wasn’t a part of the action. Here’s a look at that hand, which saw the $59,305 pot pushed to Gus “broksi” Hansen.
