Global Poker Index: Smith Maintains Lead; Aging WSOP Results On Tap

Dan Smith

Each week, the Global Poker Index releases a list of the top 300 tournament poker players in the world using a formula that takes a player's results over six half-year periods. There was no significant movement toward the top this week, meaning Dan Smith still enjoys a comfortable lead on the pack. For a look at the entire list of 300, visit the official GPI website.

What's In Store?

With the World Poker Tour event from Montreal in the books, there will be a few GPI ripples next week. Third-place finisher Jeff Gross will see a nice boost from his current No. 234 standing, while fourth-place finisher Gavin Smith will jump back into the top 100.

Over the next seven weeks, results from the 2012 World Series of Poker will begin to age into Period 2. The effects will be felt next week for Vanessa Selbst (No. 11), Daniel Negreanu (No. 20), Tommy Vedes (No. 33) and the aforementioned Bazeley (No. 201). Though, aging scores could be good things for players as there Period 2 could receive a nice jolt while there Period 1 may not take too much of a hit if they have good recent results.
