The Online Railbird Report: Sahamies Drops a Million; Blom is FTP's Biggest Winner

Ilari "Ilari FIN" Sahamies

For the past year and a half, PokerStars has played host to the online high-stakes cash games; however, now that Full Tilt Poker is back in the picture, there may be a shift back to the former home of the biggest cash games online. Granted, FTP has only been back online for a few days, but already, Viktor “Isildur1” Blom and Gus Hansen are driving the action.

Blom is already up $290,867 on FTP, but Hansen hasn’t been so fortunate — down $348,409 thus far. Those are big numbers, but they pale in comparison to the week’s biggest winner and loser, which are still being determined on PokerStars — for now.

Last week we told you of Ilari “Ilari FIN” Sahamies’ incredible run when he won $1.1 million. Well, it didn’t last as he lost $1,016,557 this week in just 2,006 hands over 23 sessions. That was quite a bit more than the next biggest loser, Andreas “Skjervøy” Torbergsen, who lost $390,905 through 9,486 hands.

“Patpatman” benefited greatly from Sahamies’ slide and finished as the week’s biggest winner with $687,855 in 2,382 hands over 31 sessions. The mystery man was down $2,461,718 on the year prior to this week, but inched closer to even with the robust win.

Sahamies Drops Nearly a Million in a Day; “1Il|1Il|1il|” Wins $387K

On Friday, Nov. 2, the $200/$400 pot-limit Omaha games were in full swing on PokerStars and both Ilari “Ilari FIN” Sahamies and “1Il|1Il|1il|” were looking to take advantage. As previously mentioned, the former was coming off a $1.1 million win last week, but proceeded to lose nearly $900,000 of it back. “1Il|1Il|1il|” managed to take $387,000 from Sahamies, which made him the day’s biggest winner.

In one of the biggest pots between the two, Sahamies ($158,636) opened for $1,360, “1Il|1Il|1il|” ($231,234) three-bet to $4,240, and Sahamies four-bet to $12,880. “1Il|1Il|1il|” proceeded to five-bet to $38,800, Sahamies called, and the flop came down 436. “1Il|1Il|1il|” checked, Sahamies bet $23,000, and “1Il|1Il|1il|” check-raised to $146,758. Sahamies called off his remaining $97,036, creating a pot of $317,670, and the cards were turned up.

Showdown
“1Il|1Il|1il|”: AQ104
Sahamies: 75QJ

Sahamies was ahead when the money went in with the flopped nuts, but “1Il|1Il|1il|” was drawing live to the nut-flush draw. The J on the turn completed the flush and left Sahamies drawing dead. The 9 was run out on the river for good measure and the pot was pushed to “1Il|1Il|1il|.”

In another notable hand, “1Il|1Il|1il|” ($412,534) opened for $1,360 only to have Sahamies ($127,690) three-bet to $4,240. Not to be outdone, “1Il|1Il|1il|” four-bet to $9,200 and then called when Sahamies five-bet to $27,760. Sahamies checked the 27J flop, and then opted to check-raise all in for $99,930 when “1Il|1Il|1il|” bet $19,200. A call was made and the cards were flipped up.

Showdown
“1Il|1Il|1il|”: AQ107
Sahamies: JJAQ

Sahamies got it in good with the flopped nuts, but once again, “1Il|1Il|1il|” was drawing to a flush. The 3 turn didn’t complete it, but the 6 river did and “1Il|1Il|1il|” took the $255,378 pot.

In the third biggest hand between the two, “1Il|1Il|1il|” ($119,723) opened for $880 and was met with a three-bet to $2,640 by Sahamies ($147,968). “1Il|1Il|1il|” bumped it to $7,920 and then called when Sahamies five-bet $23,760, bringing about a flop of 842. Sahamies led for $47,518, and then he called when “1Il|1Il|1il|” moved all in for $95,963.

Showdown
“1Il|1Il|1il|”: 3986
Sahamies: AA89

Again Sahamies got it in with the best hand and was primed to take the $239,444 pot, but “1Il|1Il|1il|” made a straight when the 9 turn and 5 river completed the board.

“1Il|1Il|1il|” wasn’t the only one who got some of Sahamies’ money. “Patpatman,” who finished as the day’s second biggest winner with $247,300, also took some, albeit in a cooler. In the hand, “patpatman” ($109,313) opened for $900 on the button and was met with a three-bet to $2,700 from Sahamies ($191,866) in the big blind. “Patpatman” four-bet to $8,100, Sahamies called, and then both players checked the 9Q3 turn. When the 2 turned, Sahamies led out for $16,198, “patpatman” raised to $64,792, and Sahamies moved all in. “Patpatman” called off his remaining $36,421 and the 6 completed the board on the river. Sahamies tabled 22KA for a set of deuces, but “patpatman” revealed K3K10 for a runner-runner flush and the $218,624 pot.

“Odd_Oddsen” Books a Small Win on a Slow Monday

Action was uncharacteristically slow on Monday, the day before the relaunch of Full Tilt Poker. In fact, the day’s biggest winner, “Odd_Oddsen”, won a mediocre $86,000 to top the charts. He did so playing 1,077 hands of PLO, most of which came at the $25/$50 tables; however, his biggest pot of the day came at a three-handed $100/$200 table.

It happened when “Odd_Oddsen” ($12,770) opened for $414 on the button, Neil “N Channing” Channing ($5,600) folded the small blind, and “danita332789” ($18,060) three-bet to $1,342 from the big. “Odd_Oddsen” made the call, and then called a bet of $2,779 on the 3210 flop. The A turn saw “danita332789” lead out for $8,337, and then called $312 more when “Odd_Oddsen” moved all in for $8,649.

Showdown
“Odd_Oddsen”: 47Q5
“danita332789”: AQ105

“Danita332789” held top two, but it was no good against “Odd_Oddsen’s” turned wheel. The 3 river changed nothing and “Odd_Oddsen” took down the $25,640 pot.

Full Tilt Poker’s Back and so is Viktor Blom

The Online Railbird Report: Sahamies Drops a Million; Blom is FTP's Biggest Winner 101
Viktor \"Isildur1\" Blom

On Tuesday, Nov. 6, Full Tilt Poker relaunched and Viktor “Isildur1” Blom, who is a member of FTP’s “The Professionals”, wasted little time jumping in the action. He started at the $0.50/$1.00 tables, but before long he was playing $50/$100 PLO against Gus Hansen, Rob “Vaga_Lion” Akery, Alexey “NoPasaran” Makarov and Ronny “ronnyr37617” Kaiser.

Blom won about $33,000 in that game and then took another $30,000 from Alex “IReadYrSoul” Millar, who plays on PokerStars under “Kanu7”, playing $100/$200 no-limit hold’em. Blom continued the action throughout Wednesday and eventually wound up winning $290,867, making him the site's biggest winner since relaunch. Meanwhile, Hansen, who is also a member of “The Professionals”, is off to a bad start on FTP, down $348,409 playing a plethora of games including PLO and 2-7 triple draw.

In Blom’s biggest pot, which happened in a $100/$200 NLHE game, Millar ($79,651.25) opened for $400 and Blom ($53,826.50) defended from the big blind. The latter then checked the 272 flop and Millar bet $480. Blom woke up with a check-raise to $1,800, Millar three-bet to $4,600, and the Swede called. Blom then check-called a bet of $6,800 on the Q turn before check-calling all in for $42,026.50 when the 2 peeled off on the river. Millar turned over KK for deuces full of kings, but it was no good as Blom had rivered quads with A2 and was sent the $107,653 pot.
