JP Poker Masters and Norwegian Championships Begin March 20

Norwegian Poker Championship

The Norwegian Championship of Poker will take place in Dublin, Ireland, for the fourth straight year. The €800 buy-in event is part of the JP Poker Masters and Norwegian Championships poker festival taking place at the City West Hotel from March 20-29, 2015

This could be the last year that the Norwegian Championships poker festival takes place outside of Norway. In October 2014, the country's Culture Ministry amended gaming regulations to permit a poker event such as the Norwegian Championships Main Event to take place within the country. The amended regulations also allow for up to five regional qualifiers into this event with a prize pool of up to 2 million Norwegian kroner ($258,000 USD).

This year's Norwegian Championship Main Event kicks off with two opening days on March 25 and 26 before moving on to three more days of play from March 27-29. Full Tilt is hosting three qualifiers a week until March 15 for this event and others on the schedule.

Last year's Norwegian Championship Main Event featured 1,263 entrants, generating a €909,360 ($1,251,958) prize pool. The final four players agreed to a deal and each of them locked up an incredible payday. In 2014, Vegard Nygaard was crowned tournament champion and won €102,780 ($141,502), while second- through fourth-place finishers, Afshin Alikhani, Daniel Nesbakken, and Atle Ulriksen, each won an even €80,000 ($110,140) for their efforts.

While the Norwegian Championship Main Event is only open to Norwegian citizens, most of the other 57-events on the schedule are open to everyone. Buy-ins are suitable for any type of player, ranging from €60-€2,000. There will also be cash games running, and if last year is any indication with more than 50 active tables running on most days during the poker festival, the action should be plentiful.

The €550 buy-in JP Poker Masters will take place on March 27-28, and it is an event on many players' radar that either are unable to play in the Norwegian Championship Main Event or as a backup plan for those players that bust early.

Other tournaments featured during this poker festival include the €150 buy-in NLH Deepstack "Welcome Party" event enabling a big payday for a small buy-in, and the €2,000 buy-in NLH High Roller event, which should attract some of the bigger names in European poker.

The schedule also features a wide variety of games including the €150 buy-in Open Face Chinese event and a €1,000 buy-in Team Event with four players on each team.
