Season 3 of the Hollywood Poker Open (HPO) will come to a close this weekend with the wildly popular $2,500 Championship Event at M Resort Casino Spa in Las Vegas. Throughout the year, players from across the country have been qualifying for the tournament, while those in Vegas for the 2015 World Series of Poker will have the chance to either win their way in via satellites or direct buy.
The Championship Event, which boasts a $500,000 guarantee, will kick off on Friday, June 26 at 12:00 p.m. local time with the plan to play 11 one-hour levels. Players will begin with a 20,000-starting stack, and registration will remain open until the start of Day 2. For a look at the tournament structure, click here.
The event will also be live reported by the PokerNews Live Reporting Team, and feature 2003 World Series of Poker Main Event champ and HPO ambassador Chris Moneymaker.
“The Hollywood Poker Open $2,500 Championship Event is certainly one of the can’t-miss tournaments of the summer," said PokerNews Editor-in-Chief Donnie Peters. "After two huge fields turned out in Season 1 and Season 2, with 631 and 692 entries, respectively, an average of $335,000 was awarded to the winner. Add in the great HPO staff, world-class M Resort Casino Spa, and playing alongside 2003 WSOP Main Event champion Chris Moneymaker, and you’d regret passing this one up.”
Main Event players will be able to utilize the popular MyStack App to update their hands and chip counts straight into the live blog. To learn more about the app, and to download for free on both iOS and Android devices, click here.
Last year, Simon Deadman topped a field of 692 players – which created a massive $1,560,460 prize pool – to win the HPO Season 2 Championship event for $351,097. The year before that, Ana Marquez emerged victorious over a field of 631 – which created a prize pool of $1,423,062 – and took home a $320,189 first-place prize.
Season 3 of the HPO proved tremendously successful. Last November, Jesse McEuen kicked things off when he took down the HPO Lawrenceburg for $49,676, and in early February Charles Maxcy took down the HPO Toledo for $37,465 after a chop.
From there, Donald McArthur won the HPO Tunica for $17,100, Steven Gurney-Goldman took down the HPO Grantville Regional for $29,342, and Linda Lieder defeated Kyle Cartwright in heads-up play to win the 2015 HPO St. Louis Regional Main Event for $48,440. More recently car dealer Loukas Michael won the HPO Charles Town for $35,803, while Daniel Swartz closed out the Regional Events by taking down the HPO Columbus for $70,560.
