UK & Ireland PokerNews Round-Up: Big Wins, Deals and Festivals
Hello and welcome to the weekly recap of the biggest and most popular stories of the past week from our UK & Ireland PokerNews site. Despite most of the poker community's focus being fixated on the 2015 World Series of Poker, there's been plenty to talk about in the UK & Ireland this week, so without further ado let's get on with the UK & Ireland PokerNews Round-Up.
Silver and Davies Strike It Big
The week started as it meant to go on when Max Silver walked away with a $432,960 score, the largest of his glittering career thus far. Silver took a day off from WSOP events to buy into a $25,000 tournament at the Aria and it turned out to be a great decision as he bulldozed his way to the title to kick off his summer in style.
A little closer to home, Julian Davies won the 2015 Grosvenor UK Poker Tour (GUKPT) Main Event, defeating talented grinder Owain "sngwonder" Carey in heads-up play after the two agreed to chop the majority of the prize pool. Also, popular Irish grinder Daragh "daragh999" Davey took down a Sunday Major when he won the Sunday Kickoff at PokerStars.
Alex Goulder Wins DTD Deepstack High Roller & Sky Poker News
More recently, as in on June 4, Alex Goulder added the partypoker DTD Deepstack High Roller title to his already impressive resume, defeating a tough final table on his way to victory.
Meanwhile, Sky Poker were in the headlines twice this week, firstly because it overhauled its loyalty scheme in an attempt to make it more appealing to recreational players and then for announcing the latest installment of its UK Poker Championships (UKPC) series at Dusk Till Dawn. This latest edition sees the UKPC revert to a six-max format which is sure to attract a lot of the online contingent.
That new Sky Poker UKPC takes place in August, but before then there's a ton of live tournament action in the UK & Ireland to get your teeth stuck into. You don't have to go hunting around the internet for the dates and venues because we've already done that for you here.
666Bet Stops Processing Withdrawals; Playtech Expands
There was also some business news to report on this week that started with the ill-fated 666Bet stopping its refunds to customers. 666Bet had its operating license suspended a few months ago and only recently started processing withdrawals. It now appears these withdrawals have stopped, and the story being the company appears to have run out of funds.
One company that certainly isn't short of cash is Playtech, the owners of the iPoker Network. The company is rapidly expanding and that looks set to continue as it announced it is in talks to acquire the binary trading online broker Plus500 for a cool £460 million.
