Sunday Briefing: “DeanMalenko” Wins the partypoker Super High Roller

Sunday Briefing -- online poker
Sharelines
  • There were some huge scores in online poker MTTs this weekend. Read all about them in the Sunday Briefing.

Canada-based poker pro “DeanMalenko” pushed his lifetime online poker tournament earnings ever closer to the $4 million mark this weekend by winning the Super High Roller tournament at partypoker.

DeanMalenko, named after a WWE wrestler, entered the $2,600 buy-in tournament with 62 other entrants and went on to outlast them all, getting his hands on the $51,187.50 first-place prize.

We have to give some love to the player known as “Ilove2fish” who finished third in this event for $23,625 before going on to finish third in the $530 buy-in High Roller for an additional $20,075, a tournament won by “Gargurgel" for $35,587.50.

This week’s $150,000 Main Event saw “onesickstory” write their own sick story by topping a field of 1,514 to secure a $24,224.10 payout.

While these payouts are impressive in their own right, they were dwarfed by the prizes awarded in this week’s Sunday Million at PokerStars. A total of 5,383 entries created a $1,076,000 prize pool, where the lion’s share was divvied up among the final three finishers, who struck a deal.

“$trateGema” finished in third-place for $93,070.69, “kdrAS” was the runner-up for $110,000, and Argentina’s “Vilactes” was crowned champion and awarded $131,000.

Some of the other large PokerStars wins included:

  • “kuki20aldin” - winner of the Sunday Kickoff for $19,959.96
  • “chipdonky247” – winner of the Hot $162 for $7,090.57
  • “SmallKindB” – winner of the $215 Bounty Builder for $14,146.01
  • “JacobLarsson” – winner of the Sunday Warm-Up for $53,179.56
  • “saks80” – winner of the Big $109 for $25,857.41
  • “JeremiieLand” – winner of the Hot $162 for $16,084.55
  • “majo-K88” – winner of the Super-Sized Sunday for $33,965.26
  • Chris “Moorman1” Moorman – winner of the $109 Bounty Builder for $14,809.22
  • “RPILON” – winner of the Hot $109 for $20,311.61
  • Jon “apestyles” Van Fleet – winner of the Sunday Grand NLHE for $57,942.80
  • Patrick “pads1161” Leonard – winner of the Sunday Grand PLO for $35,429.95

  • “maxfey01” - winner of the Hot $215 for $16,402.21
  • “RhodesBoys” – winner of the Sunday Wrap-Up for $10,562.23

The biggest tournament at 888poker on Sunday was the $120,000 Whale, a $600 buy-in event that attracts some of the world’s best online grinders. Those talented players were outlasted by Finland’s “TomYamKai” who banked $32,236.35 for their win, nice result.

Another major 888poker tournament on a Sunday is the $100,000 Mega Deep, which this week saw 690 players pay $215 to compete in it. When the last card was dealt, Uruguay’s “Sickmanjfs” was the only player with chips in front of them, which netted them $25,875.

Also in the winner’s circle at 888poker was Germany’s “51percent” who topped a field of 461 in the $50,000 Sunday Crocodile for a $13,138.50 score, and “CaiFuXi” who won the $80,000 Sunday Challenge for $14,274.67.
