Former Tennis Ace Boris Becker Signs with partypoker

Boris Becker

Formerly the world's No. 1 professional tennis player and six-time major singles winner, Boris Becker is the latest stellar name to sign with partypoker as a brand ambassador.

The online poker site has been busy recruiting ambassadors and sponsored professionals of late as it looks to expand its reach into countries around the world. This year alone, partypoker has signed Patrick Leonard, Roberto Romanello, Sam Trickett, Natalia Breviglieri, Jackie Glazier, Beata Jambrik and Joao Simao as ambassadors or sponsored pros, joining the legendary Mike Sexton, Tony Dunst and four-time world champion boxer Carl Froch on partypoker’s books.

Becker, who was previously wearing a PokerStars patch, has legendary status within the tennis community, but he also has some impressive live tournament results to boast about. In 2009, Becker finished 40th in the $25,500 WPT Five Star World Poker Classic for $40,855. More recently he made a deep run in the inaugural Devilfish Cup where he fell in 13th place for £15,000.

To celebrate Becker’s signing, partypoker is running a tennis-themed promotion called Beat the Ace which gives players the chance to play in four $5,000 freerolls, with the overall winner taking on Becker heads up live in Germany, for a prize of up to $25,000.

In a press release, Becker spoke of his excitement of signing for partypoker:

“I am equally competitive at the poker table as I was on the tennis court, so I’m really excited to be partnering with partypoker and taking on players around the world. I learned to play poker a long time ago; it’s a game of skill and perseverance, so I’m hoping to use my experience on the tennis court to my advantage. Partypoker has some world class tournaments coming up and I look forward to playing online as well as live at the partypoker MILLIONS in April, so see you there!”

partypoker’s Group Head, Tom Waters, welcomed Becker to his team.

“It’s great to have Boris on board, as he is one of Germany’s, and indeed the world’s, most notable sportsmen," he said. "Boris’ mental strength and desire to win will make him a tough competitor at the poker table, and I’m sure he’ll test our players as part of the partypoker Tennis Missions promotion! We look to expand our poker offering in Germany for 2017 and I am thrilled that Boris will be our ambassador in this market.”

WSOP Bracelet Winner Becomes a Partypoker Pro

Signing on the dotted line with Becker is another German star in Jan-Peter Jachtmann.

Jachtmann already had more than 30 live tournament cashes to his name before he won the $10,000 Pot-Limit Omaha Championship event at the 2012 World Series of Poker for a career-best score of $661,000. Now he has live tournament winnings in excess of $1.64 million, much of which come from PLO games.

“It is with great pleasure that I join the partypoker team as their newest sponsored pro," Jachtmann said. "I most enjoy playing Omaha after my World Series of Poker PLO bracelet win so look forward to playing this more online. I have watched partypoker grow in 2016 and am ready for 2017 where together we will expand the German online and live market for players.”
