Here, PokerNews takes a look at six of the best tournaments, and their results, from the past seven days at the one and only 888poker.
The $100,000 Whale
Prize pool: $127,690
Sweden’s “Madeon1994” has been grinding online tournaments for seven years and amassed almost $6.3 million in online tournament winnings. Close to $350,000 of that impressive total stems from Madeon1994’s play at 888poker. That figure received a boost this week when he won the $100,000 Whale for $26,112.60 after defeating “fezzz123” heads up, the runner-up banking $19,153.50.
The $100,000 Mega Deep

Lukas “suk12cz” Soucek moved ever closer to the magical $3 million in online winnings with a victory in the $100,000 Mega Deep. Soucek and “SanttuO” found themselves heads up and decided to strike a deal for the remaining prize pool. Soucek came out on top of the one-on-one battle and walked away with $21,068.72 with SanttuO collecting $20,059.86.
The $70,000 Sunday Challenge
Prize pool: $81,594
Earlier this year, “iCrushu556” took down the $50,000 Volcano tournament for almost $17,000 then won the $500,000 Super XL High Roller for a massive $107,606.74. This week iCrushu556 claimed the $15,298.87 first-place prize on offer in the $70,000 Sunday Challenge, a tournament that allows players to make a rebuy, which in turn gives the prize pool a significant boost. Be wary of iCrushu556 if he’s at your table because he definitely knows his way around a poker table.
The $50,000 Volcano
Prize pool: $66,670
Latvia’s Aleksejs “APonakov” Ponakovs emerged victorious in this week’s $50,000 Volcano, one of 888poker’s $600 buy in tournaments, one that attracts some of the biggest names in online poker. Ponakov is ranked in the top 50 players in the world by our friends at PocketFives.com and is rapidly closing in on $2 million in online winnings. If he keeps winning tournaments such as the $50,000 Volcano, it is only a matter of time before he smashes through that barrier.
The $50,000 Quarterback

Another of 888poker’s big events that ended in a chop was the $50,000 Quarterback, a $215 buy in tournament that allows players to rebuy a quarter of their chips for $50 during late registration. Brazil’s Joao Mathias “joao_mathias” Baumgarten, a grinder with more than $8.8 million in online winnings, won this week’s Quarterback and collected $9,207.20 after a heads-up chop with “der_bomber66” who banked $9,292.80.
The $40,000 Turbo Mega Deep
Prize pool: $40,000
Lastly for this round-up, the results from the $40,000 Turbo Mega Deep, a tournament that combined deep stacks with rapidly increasing blinds, which makes for an exciting and interesting time at the virtual felt.
“steveybg” triumphed in this week’s event, outlasting 198 opponents on his way to adding $8,600 to his bankroll. Hungary’s “ballage87” was the runner-up and scooped $6,200.
