Player of the Week: Bart Lybaert

Bart Lybaert

A big week with two nice cashes brings Bart Lybaert the Global Poker sponsored WSOP Player of the Week title - and he’s looking for more.

The Belgian kicked off his WSOP on June 7 with an eighth-place finish in Event #17: $1,500 No-Limit Hold'em 6-Handed for $44,750, and then followed that up on June 11 with a third-place finish in Event #24: THE MARATHON for $290,315 – not a bad start all in all for the summer.

In the Marathon, Lybaert entered the final three as chip leader, but wasn’t too disappointed at how things turned out.

“It was great because it was still a nice win,” he says. “The tournament went up and down; in fact, it felt like I had nine lives because of the structure.”

About his start to the summer, he said: “I couldn’t have asked for more.”

Consistent Casher

With just over $2 million in live tournament winnings, Lybaert has raked in $610,827 at the WSOP with 22 cashes. While he’s still looking for that first WSOP bracelet, he’s hoping to change that this summer. Lybaert had several nice cashes in Europe in 2017 and his biggest career cash came last August at the PokerStars National Championship in the €1,100 No Limit Hold'em. That one was also a hefty third-place finish, worth $432,856.

“I try to have a good combination of fun and poker.”

In the last couple years, Lybaert has been the model of consistency with regular cashes having become just a part of life. Away from the tables, Lybaert has taken some time to enjoy Vegas a bit – checking out Jennifer Lopez's show and hitting a few pool parties.

“So I’m having some fun as well,” he says laughing. “I try to have a good combination of fun and poker.”

While he’s enjoying his time both at the tables and away from them, the Belgian isn’t planning on making a move to Sin City any time soon.

“I like Vegas for a month, but I couldn’t live here,” Lybaert says. “I’m not that strong.”

When told he was the PokerNews Player of the Week, Lybaert was pleased and quickly added: “But I want to be Player of the Series.”
