GGPoker Ambassador Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier Eyes Third Bracelet During WSOP Online

GGPoker Ambassador Bertrand Grospellier reminisced about his WSOP past, including tangling with Phil Ivey in the 2009 WSOP

GGPoker Ambassador Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier is enjoying the 2020 WSOP Online on GGPoker, and we got the chance to catch up with the two-time bracelet winner.

Having won his first bracelet 2011 in Event #21: $10,000 Seven Card Stud Championship for $331,639, and followed that with victory in last year's WSOP Europe Colossus for €190,375.

Grospellier's history of playing at the WSOP is long, first setting foot in the tournament in 2005 where he just played the Main Event. He says it was a "magical moment."

"It was a dream come true, to have my shot at history. It didn't go so well that time, but I was hooked."

Fast-forward to 2020, and Grospellier says this is the first time since then that he's not spent June and July in Vegas playing in the best poker tournament in the world.

Grospellier's best run in the Main Event came in 2009 where he finished 122nd out of 6,494 for $40,288.

"Getting to battle with Ivey, being chip leader on the bubble, and coming back to ESPN crew every day, is a truly unique experience. It's simply unparalleled in my poker career."

Huge festivals such as the WSOP attract the attention of the very best players, both live and online, with Triple Crown winner Grospellier no exception.

He says that his vast experience of playing around the world helps immensely during a huge series like the WSOP.

"Knowing that the opportunity to win a bracelet might never happen again in your life, really puts things into perspective," Grospellier told us. "It makes you focus on what matters, and get rid of the distraction. Helps a lot for the mental aspect, and to keep on playing as close to your A game as possible when things get tough.

"Personally, one of the most important change before playing a big festival is adapting your sleep schedule. Mental fatigue is a real thing, and if you get up at 8am, when you start playing online at 8pm or so, you will already be far from your optimal cognitive functioning, so if you are fortunate enough to reach a final table at ~4am, think about it. Adrenaline can definitely help with that, but only to an extent."

Grospellier is eyeing a third WSOP bracelet this summer, something that he says he would be "absolutely ecstatic" about.

"Who knows if the opportunity to win a WSOP Gold Bracelet Online from outside the US will happen again in the future. History will be made this summer, and my dream is to be part of it."
