Anton Wigg Takes Down Two Sunday Majors For More Than $90K

Sweden’s Anton Wigg is one of the best poker tournament players in the world. Wigg has almost won it all when it comes to poker, including a European Poker Tour title and more than $10 million during his long and illustrious career.

December 13 saw Wigg hit the tables for the Sunday grind and it worked out well for him thanks to taking down a pair of tournaments for combined scores in excess of $90,000.

The first of these victories came at GGPoker in the Sunday Special $125. A bumper field of 1,844 entrants created a $212,060 prize pool and Wigg locked up the lion’s share of the pot, namely $31,928.

Wigg defeated Brazil’s “Kingtale” heads-up to lock up the title, resigning the runner-up to a $22,758 consolation prize.

Wigg also finished as runner-up to Timothy Adams in the WSOPC Series: $1,500 Sunday High Rollers and received a $44,147 haul.

While Wigg’s victory was impressive, it wasn’t the biggest prize won at GGPoker on December 13. That honour went to Finland’s “MKnaapinen” who triumphed in the High Roller MILLION$.

The Finn struck a deal with “zufo16” when the 468-strong field had been whittled down to only two. The runner-up banked $228,682 as part of the deal with the champion padding their bankroll with $234,363.

$60K Score For Wigg at PokerStars

Wigg’s second impressive first-place finish came at PokerStars in the $1,050 Sunday High Roller 8-Max. This tournament regularly attracts some of the best players in the business and the December 13 edition certainly did that.

Any of the eight finalists would have made a worthy champion but it was Wigg who shone the brightest.

Netherlands’ “Floesoe” was the final table’s first casualty, a finish worth $8,007. Then came the demise of Team PokerStars’ Lex “L.Veldhuis” Veldhuis in seventh before Sergio “zcedrick” Aido and Sergei “Futti18” Koliakov fell by the wayside.

Joao “Naza114” Vieira, fresh from a huge victory at GGPoker, collected the $25,403 fourth-place prize before Thomas “WushuTM” Muehloecker’s exit in third-place, worth $33,903, left Wigg heads-up with Russian star “CrazyLissy”.

Wigg got the job done and banked the $60,388 top prize, leaving his Russian opponent to reel in a $45,248 payout.

Octopokes Wins The $100,000 Sunday Mega Deep

There’s action aplenty at 888poker right now thanks to the XL Winter Series being in full swing. The highlights from Sunday’s event will be recapped separately, which leaves us with two of 888poker’s biggest non-festival tournaments.

“Octopokes” became the $100,000 Sunday Mega Deep champion after topping the 985-strong field in the $109 buy-in tournament. Octopokes netted $18,750 for finishing top of the pile, something achieved after beating fellow Brit “woolinator” heads-up. Woolinator won $13,500 for their second-place finish.

The other big victory was “KwiacurVr6” who is the $25,000 Sunday Challenge PKO champion. Victory weighed in at $2,521 plus $3,398 worth of bounties for a combined score worth $5,919.

Gostisa Becomes High Roller Big Game Champion

Rok Gostisa added credit to claims he’s one of the best high roller tournament players in the world by adding the High Roller Big Game title to his long list of poker-related accomplishments.

Gostisa won this week’s event and secured a $77,076 payment. The victory wasn’t an easy task because the nine-handed final table was the home to some legitimate superstars.

Christian Rudolph and Rui Ferreira’s time at the finale table was short-lived and they were the first to bust. Cedric Schwaederle and Pascal Lefrancois joined them on the rail before Yuri Dzvielevski and Steve O’Dwyer crshed and burned; O’Dwyer won $29,027 for his demise in fourth-place.

Bruno Volkmann fell in third, which left Gostisa and Julian Stuer heads-up. The heads-up duo didn’t strike a deal, so Gostisa locked up $77,076 when he defeated Stuer, resigning the runner-up to the $55,486 second-place prize.
